The Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD) is the executive branch office of Massachusetts state government that provides oversight and assistance to the state’s businesses, workers, and jobseekers. EOLWD oversees the Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA), the Department of Career Services (DCS), the Department of Labor Standards (DLS), the Department of Industrial Accidents (DIA), the Department of Labor Relations (DLR), the Department of Family and Medical Leave (DFML), the Division of Apprentice Standards (DAS), the Council on the Underground Economy, and the Commonwealth Corporation. Congratulations to Jackie, a sophomore at Assabet Valley Regional Vocational School District, studying HVAC, for bringing home a silver medal at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Competition last week! 🥈 Our team was pleased to meet Jackie and her fellow classmates last month when we joined the Massachusetts Executive Office of Education to announce new Skills Capital Grants. When she graduates high school, Jackie plans to enter the workforce as an HVAC technician and contribute to Massachusetts' clean energy and sustainability goals. 👏

BIG NEWS 🎉: The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced this week $15.9 million in workforce development grant funding for 22 initiatives across Massachusetts, representing partnerships with employers, training providers, and regional collaborators. This latest round of workforce development funding will train, upskill, and provide job placement for 2,182 workers for in-demand occupations in health care, human services, life sciences, culinary arts, and more. This announced investments in Senator Kenneth J. Donnelly Workforce Success grants are funded by The Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD) and administered by Commonwealth Corporation through the state’s Workforce Competitiveness Trust Fund. Each awarded grant aims to close the skills gap, increase access to well-paying jobs for unemployed and underemployed residents, and strengthen productivity and workforce needs among employers in regions throughout Massachusetts. Secretary Lauren Jones of Labor and Workforce Development, and Commonwealth Corporation President and CEO Molly Jacobson announced awarded grants at Snapchef in Springfield. Among the 22 grantees, Snapchef plans to train, upskill, and provide employment for 168 in Culinary Professional roles. The Massachusetts unemployment rate in May remained below the national average, and the preliminary labor force increased by 13,600. Over the month, the Leisure and Hospitality sector gained 2,900, the Education and Health Services sector gained 2,500 jobs, and Construction sector gained 1,400 jobs. The total number of non-farm jobs in Massachusetts is estimated at 3,733,900.
