This #SelfCareSunday we're encouraging you to go to bed early❗️ More than 1 in 3 adults do not get the recommended 7 hours of sleep each night. This can have negative effects on your heart and your body such as increasing your risk of heart disease, heart attack, and stroke💔 If you want to learn more about the connection between sleep and heart disease, MHI has various resources available such as discussion guides, webinars, and more! Atrial fibrillation (#AFib) is the most common type of irregular heartbeat and increases the risk of stroke by about 5 times❗️ That’s why @Kareem Abdul-Jabbar joined Bristol Myers Squibb & Pfizer to raise awareness of AFib and encourage anyone with common symptoms like irregular heartbeat, heart racing, chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, or light-headedness, to get checked out🫀 Only a doctor can determine if it’s AFib or something else. Holding off on seeing a doctor won’t change whether or not you have AFib. But if you do, seeing a doctor may help you get ahead of stroke risk🩺 Learn more at👉NoTimetoWait.com

#DidYouKnow For every degree your body temperature rises, your heart beats approximately 10 beats faster per minute❗️ With high temperatures and heat waves across the nation, it is essential you are taking care of your body and heart. High temperatures increase your blood flow causing your heart to work harder. The high temperatures can even thin your blood, meaning it doesn't clot as easily. This can be dangerous for individuals taking blood-thinning medication🫀 Make sure to stay hydrated and stay cool to keep your heart and body safe☀️

Are you living with #HeartFailure❓ We talked to individuals living with heart failure and asked for their advice for newly diagnosed patients. Here's what they had to say👇 🏃♂️Exercise. "Exercise makes a huge difference, even when it feels impossible. Walk outside, if you can, to make you feel more positive." 🌳Don't stay home. "Go to church. Go to the mall. Join a support group. Go bowling or golfing. Walk. Volunteer." 🍎Eat Healthy "Try to reduce sodium and eat more healthy foods. Follow fluid restrictions, but find ways to still enjoy what you are eating." 💊Take medication exactly as you were told. "It is very important to take medication so you feel better and live longer. If you have questions, call your doctor." 📚Educate yourself. "You will feel more confident making decisions and taking care of yourself if you learn about your heart disease. Only use reliable sources."
