About us
Prevention, when possible, reduces stress on emergency response systems and helps save lives. This is the same for mental health, and education is the key. Mental health literacy (MHL)- a part of health literacy - has historically been missing. MHL is evidence-based, universal education. It is a public health approach and proactive solution to the current mental health crisis. The mental health education landscape is complex. This is a system issue. The MHLC helps implementation professionals (people and organizations) navigate the system and empower school and community leaders with through our three core initiatives: * MHL Advocacy & Education * Content ID, Research & Development * Policy Guidance Our mission is to make the education framework of mental health literacy foundational in schools and communities. Everyone deserves to understand mental health just like they understand other aspects of health. We help implementation leaders ensure schools and communities have access to MHL through education, collaboration, and innovation.

We are happy to see MHL reaching more and more communities with special thanks to MHLC Advisors and MHL champions! 🏆 🙏 Thank you, Sunny Noelle Naughton for ensuring that the Newport City, VT hears about #mentalhealthliteracy (MHL). ✂ An excerpt from the article: "Sunny Naughton, founder and lead consultant of Sunshine Silver Lining, which offers mental health literacy and communications, was one of several vendors. 'It’s important that every single one of us knows how to help each other so that we can have a healthy community,' she said. ...'We know we need more mental health practitioners, but if we can help each other through connection and communication, we can have a beautiful life here in Northern Vermont.'” #communityhealth #mentalhealth #education #advocacy #upstream

The U.S. Surgeon General has issued a parental mental health & well-being advisory: "Parents Under Pressure". You can download it here: ➡ https://lnkd.in/g5KqiDkM In the advisory, U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy says that parents' well-being is linked to the well-being of their kids. The report also says that one of the critical worries that parents have is related to their children's mental health. We believe that #mentalhealthliteracy (MHL) education should be a part of the solution. MHL is the part of health literacy that many of us didn't learn. When trusted adults including parents and caregivers have MHL, they have the knowledge and confidence they need to support the youth in their lives and help them to develop their own MHL too. Let's work together to find ways to support individuals and communities with MHL education. 👏 👏 Kudos to Richard Weissbourd, Milena Batanova, and the entire team at Making Caring Common at HGSE or your contributions to this piece from The Week. Making Caring Common is addressing the critical mental health needs of young adults ages 18-25. We've had the chance to get to know them through their Commitment to Action (CTA) with Clinton Global Initiative (CGI). As The Mental Health Literacy Collaborative begins our own journey with CGI next month, we are inspired by Making Caring Common and all the other amazing groups with CTAs. 🏆 ✨ There is so much work to do, but the journey ahead seems less daunting alongside such amazing champions for change. #mentalhealth #clintonglobal2024 #advocacy #leadership

💫 Would your community benefit from #mentalhealthliteracy (MHL)? MHL is often missing in traditional education settings, including K12 schools and universities. The Mental Health Literacy Framework includes these 4 components: 📕 Understanding how to foster and maintain positive mental health 📗 Understanding common mental health disorders and their treatments 📘 Understanding how to seek help effectively 📙 Understanding stigma and how to reduce it 💫 The MHLC is launching a new YA Advocacy Council this fall and welcome applicants ages 18+ to apply! 💫 We aim to empower and amplify young adult voices and promote Mental Health Literacy (MHL) in schools and communities across the nation. 📣 💪 📣 💫 Under the guidance of the council leadership, the council will co-create tangible advocacy materials and toolkits like our MHL Advocacy Toolkit. https://lnkd.in/eUiSKRGR 👇 To learn more and apply, visit: https://lnkd.in/eaG_tQn8 #mentalhealth #youthmentalhealth #advocacy #schoolmentalhealth
