Updates

  • Peggy was born in Brooklyn, NY into a large Irish-Catholic family. She was a single mother of 2 sons and a kindergarten teacher. She was a vocal advocate for students in the public education system and was working towards her master's degree. At the time of her death, Peggy was teaching at PS 198, caring for her elderly mother, and planning to spend her retirement between her home in Brooklyn and her long-time partner’s house in Maui. Peggy acquired #cdiff after taking clindamycin for a dental procedure. Within 2 days, she was feeling ill and suffering from severe diarrhea. After 4 days of severe diarrhea, she was feeling extremely ill and looking pale. After being taken to the ED by paramedics, it was found she had a severe C. diff infection, extremely low blood pressure, and was in septic shock. She underwent an emergency surgery and remained stable for a few hours but then began to decline. She ultimately passed away from complications of Sepsis. Peggy was only 56 at the time of her passing. Learn more about Peggy Lillis and Peggy Lillis Foundation at cdiff.org

  • When struggling with C. diff, Rick ran into a problem that many patients often encounter. He received little to no guidance from his physician about what he should be doing to take care of himself. In addition to taking medication, C. diff patients need guidance on cleaning and disinfecting their home, what they can eat, and what lifestyle changes should be made. • “I'll never forget the person that said: ‘people die from C diff every day in New York, it's not unusual. We don't report it to the state or the CDC.’ And my response to that was, a healthy 56-year-old woman going to the dentist and dying 6 days later isn't unusual to you?” The conversation that started a nationwide movement. In the latest from Contagion_Live hear from PLF Founder & CEO Christian John Lillis about the beginnings of the organization and how far we have come in the last 14 years.
