If you work in #sustainability, you've surely heard the phrase "circular economy." We dive into what this means and how it's influencing The Water Council and our members in our latest blog post by our European representative, Beverley Ferrara. You'll learn: 💧 How Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District was ahead of the curve with its Milorganite® Fertilizer. 💧How BREW alumn Aquacycl has made advancements in #CircularEconomy wastewater treatment. 💧Why this issue ties into The Water Council's Water + Energy Forward Engine, a proposed National Science Foundation (NSF) regional innovation engine. https://lnkd.in/gim85pMc #wastewater #WastewaterTreatment #resiliency #WaterStewardship Orianna Bretschger

These are the exhausted smiles of people who have worked incredibly hard the last few weeks to finish our pre-proposal to the National Science Foundation (NSF) for a regional innovation engine in #Wisconsin, officially turned in today! We celebrated with a quick lunch before diving right back in to discuss how we will approach our next steps. (Not pictured: Our fearless leader Dean Amhaus, busy holding down the fort at The Water Council office.) Visit https://lnkd.in/g6zv9eWb to learn more about our engine proposal, Water + Energy Forward. Many thanks to our lead engine partners, MKE Tech Hub Coalition, Wisconsin Technology Council, Rockwell Automation, Marquette University, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison Region Economic Partnership, Wisconsin Center for Manufacturing and Productivity (WCMP) and the Racine Wastewater Utility.

Since it's Wisconsin State Fair time, let's throw it back to when FOX6 Milwaukee, WITI-TV did a story about one of our member startups, DMR International, Inc, and its pilot project (arranged through our Pilot Project program) to clean up contaminated #stormwater at Wisconsin State Fair Park! We were thrilled to learn recently that DMRI has now moved on to the implementation stage of the project and will soon be installing five permanent units on the fairgrounds. #WaterTechnology #WaterTreatment #WhereWaterWorks Rick Latella

Sure, the City of Lights has the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and, right now, the Olympics, but they don't have the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District keeping their water clean! See how the #Milwaukee River compares to the Seine in this column from MMSD Executive Director Kevin Shafer. #Wastewater #WhereWaterWorks #WorldWaterHub
The Paris Olympics suspended events in the Seine River due to bacteria. Could Milwaukee River host such an event? Learn more in this Blue Notes, from Executive Director, Kevin Shafer. https://lnkd.in/ggANRKuk

She has extensive expertise in the areas of sustainability, infrastructure investment, environmental management, water resources, the circular economy, equity and environmental justice. She also previously served as CEO of the US Water Alliance. The Nexus summit builds on the history of The Water Council's Water Leaders Summit and Marquette Business' Sustainability 2.0 Conference. "It's always a good day when the lead comes out." Journalist Travis Loop, host of waterloop, was in #Milwaukee recently learning about the city's efforts to remove lead pipes and install green infrastructure. Watch for a full episode coming soon. #lead #leadpipes #greeninfrastructure #WhereWaterWorks
Milwaukee has 65,000 lead lines. Since a city ordinance requiring removal in 2017, Milwaukee Water Works is accelerating the pace to replace 3,500 lines per year. The city is also targeting neighborhoods most in need, tapping into federal funds - particularly from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law - so that homeowners pay nothing, and supporting the local workforce.
