About us

The World Food Prize is the foremost international award recognizing -- without regard to race, religion, nationality, or political beliefs -- the achievements of individuals who have advanced human development by improving the quality, quantity or availability of food in the world. The Prize was founded in 1986 by Dr. Norman E. Borlaug, recipient of the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize. Since then, the World Food Prize has honored outstanding individuals who have made vital contributions throughout the world. Laureates have been recognized from Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, China, Denmark, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Israel, Mexico, Sierra Leone, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United Nations and the United States. The World Food Prize also annually hosts the Borlaug Dialogue international symposium, and several youth education programs including the Global Youth Institute and Borlaug-Ruan International Internship to inspire the next generation to explore careers in agriculture and food security.

  • Last week marked a historic moment as the World Food Prize Foundation launched DialogueNEXT in Mexico, our first-ever conference outside the U.S. 🌎 In collaboration with the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), we were honored to bring together over 225 organizations from 55 countries to address the critical theme: "Seeds of Strength: Nurturing Farmer Resilience." Throughout the event, we were inspired by remarkable stories from farmers who confront immense challenges like climate change, resource scarcity, and global conflict. The conversations highlighted the interconnectedness of food security and national security, emphasizing the need for sustainable agricultural practices and stronger partnerships between governments, the private sector and civil society. Key announcements included updates from Dr. Cary Fowler, the 2024 World Food Prize Laureate, on VACS and new collaborations aimed at improving climate-smart agriculture. The legacy of Dr. Norman Borlaug was also honored by his family and esteemed colleagues, who shared their memories and reinforced our mission to inspire future generations. Stay tuned this week as we continue to share more! #dialogueNEXTmexico
