We recently asked our audience what they wanted to be when they grew up. All the classic dream jobs were accounted for, with athlete (9%), veterinarian (7%), teacher (6.5%), and doctor (6%) leading the pack. Sadly, 74% said their current career is nowhere near their original dream job, while 21% said they settled on a related, more realistic version, and 5% said they’re living out their childhood dream. As for what jobs readers would recommend to their childhood selves if they could go back in time, we got a variety of answers: construction management, law, scientist, computer programmer. But the smartest of them all said: “I’d recommend buying real estate and pre-IPO Google, Amazon, Netflix or Nvidia stock.”

Let's play a game: Would you rather win the Super Bowl or sign a $100 million podcast deal with Amazon? Well, if you're Travis or Jason Kelce, you don't have to choose. The duo just signed deal for their "New Heights" podcast with Amazon's Wondery unit, The Wall Street Journal reports. The deal "gives Wondery the rights to distribute and sell ads for audio and video versions of 'New Heights,'" the Journal adds. It will remain available across Spotify, Apple, YouTube, and Amazon Music. Wave Sports + Entertainment, which previously distributed the show, will continue to produce it. This is the latest in a slew of massive, celebrity-focused podcast deals. Just last week, Alex Cooper, host of "Call Her Daddy" signed a $100M+ deal with SiriusXM. This just in: Australia’s new “right to disconnect” law protects most employees who choose to ignore work-related contact outside of working hours. This means that outside their working hours, employees can refuse to monitor, read or respond to contact or attempted contact from their employer, or another person if the contact is work-related (for example, work-related contact from clients or members of the public) unless the employee’s refusal is unreasonable, as per Australia's Fair Work Commission.

📉 There are 340k fewer accountants now than there were in 2019, for a total of 1.6m in the US. Between 2016 and 2021, there was a 33% drop in first-time CPA exam candidates, and 2022 marked the lowest number of test takers since 2006. Existing accountants are also aging out, with an estimated ~75% at retirement age. The perception of the gig and those who do it as boring isn’t winning over younger students, per Business Insider. Also not helping: the extensive schooling and testing required, low entry-level wages, and long hours. It's pretty obvious why it matters — but what can be done about it? Unlike a man’s height in his dating app profile, revenue numbers don’t lie. And the figures aren’t looking too good for dating companies as users get fed up with swiping: 📉Tinder’s paying user base shrunk 9% YoY in 2024 to just shy of 10m. 💥Match Group, which owns Tinder, saw other investments dip as well. Archer and Chispa — apps for LGBTQ and Latino daters, respectively — saw revenue dip 4% in 2023. 🐝Bumble missed analyst expectations with its Q4 2023 earnings, sending its stock spiraling down 30% and leading to the layoffs of 30% of its workforce. 💔Match Group and Bumble — which make up the majority of the dating market — have lost a combined $40B+ in market value since 2021. This begs the question: Are dating apps dying out? Here's our take, as well as what they're doing to stay above water: https://lnkd.in/enf-ux6z
