Thank you Richa Bansal for highlighting the alarming reality of textile waste and the urgent need for change in the apparel industry. We're honored to be part of the Slow Fashion Caucus and to work alongside passionate leaders like Congresswoman Chellie Pingree in paving the way for a more sustainable future.
More than 11 million tonnes of #textilewaste end up in US #landfills yearly. The problem is getting worse, but the #apparelindustry has the power to be part of the solution. It is with this thought and the urgent need to rein in the fast fashion pollution that Congresswoman Chellie Pingree launched the Congressional Slow Fashion Caucus to create climate-smart policies to reduce, repair, rewear, and recycle textiles. She outlines her plans in this exclusive conversation with Richa Bansal. https://lnkd.in/gyH2Tf_f #fastfashion #slowfashion #congressionalcaucus #unitedstates #texfash US Congress Follow texfash.com on LinkedIn: https://lnkd.in/dWNRX6vM Mention: ACT (American Circular Textiles) American Sheep Industry Assn Apparel Impact The Climate Reality Project Custom Collaborative Fibers Fund Fibershed Garment Worker Center Helpsy® Industrial Commons Kelly Dempsey L.L.Bean Patagonia Pennsylvania Fibershed remake.world Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems Funders (SAFSF) The RealReal ThredUp

ICYMI: The world now throws out 92 million tons of clothes a year and only about an eighth of it gets recycled, according to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. What happens to the rest? They either hit landfill or are burned... Now, researchers at the University of Delaware are proposing a new recycling technique that breaks down blended fabrics using chemicals and microwaves. Researchers say the process takes 15 minutes and can dissolve any blend of cotton, polyester, nylon and spandex into molecules that can be used to make new fabrics or products like dyes, electronics and tires. While this would be a huge game changer, we still need to address the way fast fashion produces apparel - both in terms of quality and quantity. Read more in The Washington Post
