We were thrilled to host the President and CEO of the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, Charles Ingoglia at Thresholds Center for Mental Wellbeing Ravenswood yesterday. Our wonderful staff facilitated tours of the therapy and group spaces, the Living Room: Forever Hope, our integrated healthcare partners Tapestry 360 Health and Genoa Healthcare pharmacy, and crisis response program - all in this one location. Thresholds is proud to now have four open and operating Centers for Mental Wellbeing - in Ravenswood, McHenry County, Chicago's South Side, and Kankakee - and it's because of support and partnerships like these that make that possible.
About us
Thresholds provides healthcare, housing, and hope for thousands of persons with mental health and substance use conditions in Illinois each year. Through care, employment, advocacy, and housing, Thresholds assists and inspires people to reclaim their lives. Thresholds is one of the oldest and largest providers of recovery services for persons with mental health and substance use conditions in Illinois. We offer 30 innovative programs at more than 75 locations throughout Chicago, the adjacent suburbs, and four surrounding counties. Services include assertive outreach, case management, housing, employment, education, psychiatry, primary care, substance use treatment, and research. Thresholds’ staff meets people where they are – out in the community. Offering services in a community-based setting makes them more accessible and effective and lessens the social exclusion that is often present in the lives of persons living with mental illnesses and substance use conditions. This allows our staff and clients to work on skills, clinical interventions, and recovery that allows them to live independent lives in their own neighborhoods Our clients are all unique – coming from vastly different backgrounds and arriving with different needs, talents, and hopes. Each client works with our staff to set their own specific short-term goals and objectives, based on their needs, desires, and level of self-sufficiency. Recovery from mental illnesses and substance use is possible. Recovery is a process of finding and living a satisfying and meaningful life, as one defines it for oneself. We assist our clients as they work to reclaim a positive sense of self, and discover their own potential, gifts, and skills.

"What makes mental health universal is that it does not discriminate. Mental health doesn’t care about your age, your race, your background; none of those things." Just as singer J Balvin says, mental health is universal, something that can be shared and felt by all of us at any given time. In a way, it connects us. But stigma, fear, and shame keep us from talking about it or embracing treatment. "And also, because I am Latino — I know there can be a certain stigma in my community when it comes to mental well-being. Many Latino men will not want to talk about depression, because they fear it is not a manly thing, or that they will then be known as loco. But I don’t hesitate to say that I have been depressed." July is National #MinorityMentalHealthAwarenessMonth, bringing focus to the unique needs and challenges for racial and ethnic minority populations. While mental health is universal, and does not discriminate, treatment and recovery should be individualized. This is built into the foundation of Thresholds’ service model, tailoring care to each client as needed. Finding the right healthcare provider for you can be a difficult feat. We’ve included some resources (slide 9) to help get you started. Please tag and share others in the comments! Statistics from NAMI #minoritymentalhealth #MinorityMentalHealthMonth #mentalhealth

Thank you to Chicago Sister Cities International for making Thresholds one of the stops on your site visits across the city! We were so proud to be chosen as a host of more than 40 international delegates from eight of Chicago's sister cities as they traveled around to learn about various social service practices. Over the course of these visits, these international delegates were able to learn how Chicago addresses social challenges including trauma-informed care, expanding mental health supports, how to support the social service workforce, and how to be inclusive in this work.

Thank you Illinois State Senator Patrick Joyce and Thresholds Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Advocacy, Heather O'Donnell for visiting Thresholds Kankakee and talking with our clients about state legislation and how it impacts them - people with serious mental illnesses and substance use conditions - and the greater community. It's so important that we involve our clients in their recovery and integration into their community. Visits from lawmakers and leaders in the mental health landscape allow our clients to ask questions and learn about changes that impact them. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthadvocacy #advocate #mentalhealthawareness
