Lynn Conway pioneered out-of-order instruction execution at IBM in the 1960s. With Professor Carver Mead, she pioneered VLSI IC design methods at Xerox PARC during the 1970s. Conway died on June 9 at the age of 86. Her technical achievements are inextricably intertwined with her life’s journey as a transgender woman.
