Firm believer that you cannot replicate what you learn on the road and in person with customers virtually. Simply cannot! Was great being back at IFPA with the Tive Team but was even better getting to take a few hours away from the show to take one of Tive's newer reps, James Clarkson, out into the field and on-site with a customer for the first time. James has been calling upon food shippers for about a year now (and might I say doing a tremendous job doing it - smashing his numbers every quarter) but had never been out in the field or in a cooler, to see the job done and operations in real life. Calling upon and doing Zoom meetings with your target audience is one thing but being able to spend time with the boots on the ground crew and to see with your own eyes in real life what the operation actually looks like and even feels like (so cold in those coolers, lol), totally changes your perspective on things. You walk away with a whole new understanding and appreciation for what your customers do (I know how much of a larger understanding I walked away with after my first visit to Salinas and Watsonville). Can certainly tell you from the look on James's face walking through the cooler (seeing the pre-cooling machines, the staging area, all the trucks lined up, etc) and all the questions he had on the car ride home after that it was a special and enlightening day. Special thanks to our client for giving one of the best and most unique cooler tours that I've done to date. Look forward to many more field visits with you, James!
