Pumped to be back in Boise, Idaho for the VRNation (formerly NWVRP) conference. Many of you may not know, but I actually started Topkey while living in Boise temporarily after moving out of San Francisco during COVID. It was an exciting time. Honestly, I didn’t quite know what I was doing. I just knew that my time at Airbnb was winding down, and I was ready to start a new company. Flash forward almost four years, and it’s been an incredible ride—building out Topkey, hiring ten people, raising money, and bringing on so many amazing customers. But back to Boise… it was July 2020, and my wife and I had decided to move out of SF since it was still completely shut down and we were getting cabin fever. So we sublet our apartment in pac heights, bought a car, and picked a city on the map. We knew we wanted to spend time in places we might never otherwise live, and Boise was first on the list. We stayed in an awesome Airbnb hosted by Jeff and Beth, that was on a hill overlooking the city. In total we spent 8 months on the road - also living in Bozeman, Austin, and then to 30A in Florida - before we moved full time to Florida. For me it’s wild looking back on that time, leaning into the unknown a bit. Highly recommend this approach to life, more often than not you get rewarded in ways you might never otherwise know.
