Where It All Started
We started in 1958 in Southern California as a convenience store, but we wanted to become a True Neighborhood Market, so in 1967, we opened our first Trader Joe's in Pasadena, CA. Through our rewarding products and knowledgeable and friendly crew members, we have been transforming grocery shopping into a welcoming journey full of discovery and fun ever sense. We now have over 540 stores in 42 states plus Washington, D.C.

Neighborhood Shares
Being a neighborhood grocery store is about more than just selling groceries. It’s also about being a good neighbor, in every Trader Joe’s neighborhood. Through our Neighborhood Shares Program, we are able to provide nourishment to our neighbors, every day, in every store. Each of our stores across the country donates 100% of products that go unsold but remain fit to be enjoyed to local food recovery organizations, seven days a week, resulting in $469 million dollars' worth of products donated.
