Transition Skills Training was selected by the Texas Veterans Commission to provide Small Business Training for veteran-owned businesses in the Lone Star State and will be awarded a $50,000 grant! Live, virtual classes will include topics on Marketing, Finding Funding, Hiring & Recruiting, Artificial Intelligence, Bookkeeping, Management and more. Veteran-owned businesses will be able to participate at no cost. We will post new classes on the calendar starting this month! TST Co-Founder Julie Niehoff tried to capture part of the somber and moving Memorial Day procession at this year’s Carry The Load event in Dallas on video, to share it… but no photo or cell phone clip can really capture it. This event is most impactful in person. We had a very meaningful weekend in Dallas, honoring Gold Star families and working alongside fellow National Nonprofit Partners of #carrytheload - keeping the true purpose of Memorial Day in mind and walking the Katy Trail with families and friends. We are grateful for this annual opportunity to remember people who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

🇺🇲 Today, as part of our Week of Remembrance, we honor our Executive Director's cousin, Corporal Gregory Jon Olsen. Greg was a brave soul who made the ultimate sacrifice on May 25, 1969, during the Vietnam War. At just 22 years old, serving in the U.S. Army in Dinh Tuong Province, his life was tragically cut short by a gasoline explosion. Despite his injuries, his spirit and dedication to his comrades never waned. “Everybody loved Greg, both back home and in-country. He was a special part of our family and we’re all proud of his service and we were devastated by his sacrifice,” — CJ Niehoff Greg's legacy lives on through the memories shared by those who knew him, including a fellow soldier, Dennis Thian, who described Greg as a “hell of a man” and shared how Greg helped him endure the hardships of Vietnam while they were serving side by side. As we #CarryTheLoad this Memorial Day, we will walk to honor Greg and his family, and the countless others who have laid down their lives in service to our nation. Their courage and dedication will never be forgotten.
