Humming is often seen as a distraction or problem behavior in the home, classroom, or workplace but really it can be a sign the person is trying to regulate their nervous system. Humming sends signals of safety to our brain through our nervous system, and soothes our respiratory and cardiovascular systems. Humming or making a buzzing sound can also be incorporated into breathing practices for an extra boost of relaxation and relief from anxiety. This is called “buzzy breathing” or “bee breathing.” I encourage to try a group hum along with your favorite people and see what happens! Leave a heart below if you have hummers in your life, because I do. 🩷 For more tips and resources on children’s mental health and coping with childhood trauma, subscribe to my free newsletter at BethTyson.com. #childwelfare #selfcare #workplacewellbeing #mentalhealth
