About us
Trillium Renewable Chemicals is developing a chemical process technology for the manufacture of acrylonitrile and acetonitrile from renewable feedstocks (e.g. glycerol). Acrylonitrile is a valuable intermediate used in the production of a wide range of molecules, e.g.: acrylic fibers, carbon fibers, specialty amines, nylon, adiponitrile, styrene acrylonitrile resin, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, nitrile rubbers, and acrylamide. By making a green, drop-in replacement precursor, Trillium helps customers reach sustainability goals. These drop-in replacement molecules have a wide range of applications with strong sustainability drivers, e.g.: apparel, automotive parts, toys, sporting goods, household furnishings, and water treatment.

The world’s largest toy company, Lego, has committed to a net-zero carbon footprint by 2050. Lego announced its Supplier Sustainability Program, which requires its biggest suppliers to share their emissions data in 2024 and reduction targets starting in 2026. The toy maker’s priorities are reducing plastics and cutting emissions, an initiative that aligns with 🧪 Trillium Renewable Chemicals’ 🌱 mission. We applaud Lego for holding suppliers accountable and taking steps toward cleaner plastics production.
Lego has committed to cutting its carbon footprint by 37% by 2032. Read on ⬇ Close to 99% of Lego’s emissions come from Scope 3, which covers the activities of its supply chain. the LEGO Group’s new Supplier Sustainability Program, announced July 3, requires its biggest suppliers (representing about 70 percent of its overall emissions) to share data about emissions generated by the production of goods and services they sell to Lego, starting in 2024. They’ll need to share reduction targets starting 2026. Lego declined to provide additional details. "Sustainability is a license to operate and a requirement of how we do business, including how we select our suppliers," said Carsten Rasmussen, chief operations officer at Lego, in a statement. 🧪 Trillium Renewable Chemicals 🌱 has chosen INEOS Nitriles' Green Lake facility in Port Lavaca, Texas, to set up Project Falcon, a demonstration plant for converting plant-based glycerol into acrylonitrile. “This milestone is a significant step forward in bringing our technology to market and producing sustainable bio-based acrylonitrile at scale,” Trillium CEO Corey Tyree says. The plant is expected to begin operations in early 2025 and run through early 2026. Project Falcon’s operation will confirm the economic viability at a demonstration scale and help generate data on the plant’s carbon footprint.
