Caring together, having fun together! Our parent company, True Ventures Group, treated us to an unforgettable day at Nickelodeon yesterday. It wasn't just about the fun, though. It was about the heart (of the home). Families came together, laughter echoed through the day, and joy was everywhere. But in True Care fashion, we took that joy and turned it into something even more meaningful. Guided by our incredible crafting queen, Sunny, we set up a special arts and crafts station where kids and adults created Letters of Care - beautiful, heartfelt messages for the sick and elderly in hospitals. It was a reminder that our mission to care for others doesn't take a day off - it's woven into everything we do. Celebrating Senior Citizen Month with a Pawsome Day! This week, we hosted a pet therapy session with Ruchika and Watson, a 7-year-old German Shepherd from the Good Dog Foundation. Pet therapy has many benefits: it stimulates the mind, eases anxiety, helps with memory recall, reduces loneliness, lowers blood pressure, and even boosts mood and motor skills. We offer compassionate companion care - just like the unconditional love animals provide. I have a lot to say about supporting people with Alzheimer's disease and other cognitive impairments. Having the honor of working with families and many different clients has changed the way I interact with everyone, not just people with a cognitive deficit. When I decided to seek formal training as a dementia specialist I was excited to learn more ways to support clients, their families and caregivers. I wish I could help more people. When I was little one of my favorite types of books was the "Choose Your Own Adventure" (https://lnkd.in/ezUpyNAJ). This was a series of adventure stories where you could choose the next step in the story, or what the main character did. Depending on your choice, the book would instruct you to skip to a certain page to continue the story. Inevitably, I would go back to the option I didn't pick, and read that version also. When I witness an unsuccessful and upsetting interaction between two people I imagine the Choose Your Own Adventure story and how it could have gone differently with some quick tips, education and empathy. At True Care Home Care I am proud to offer specialized training and support for people with cognitive impairments for both families and caregivers. I was happy to share some some tips with ElderCare Review on this topic recently but the article is only a very small part of the story. Don't argue. Give choices. Honor them, don't blame them. Live their truth.
