About us

Turning Green is a global student-led movement devoted to cultivating a healthy, just, resilient planet through education and advocacy around climate justice, environmental sustainability, and public health. With powerful solutions-oriented programs, scalable campus and community initiatives, and strong leadership and mentorship opportunities. Our key programs: Project Green Challenge: This powerful and diverse call to action features 30 days of environmentally-themed challenges that change lives, shift mindsets, and equip students with knowledge, resource, and mentorship to lead change on campuses and in communities. Following the 30 days of October each year, up to 14 Finalists are selected to attend the PGC Finals — an all-expenses-paid eco summit in San Francisco, California. Internship Program: Through our leadership development framework, we support opportunities for students to facilitate and activate widespread campus and community action. In-person and virtual year-round experiential learning opportunities provide students with valuable, transferable knowledge, skills, and mentorship. Our internships support our key programs, assist with project planning, strategy, and implementation, and focus on areas ranging from communications, writing, graphic design, data mapping, and more. Benefits include practical experience, flexible hours, and the opportunity to work with a powerhouse, passionate team of committed changemakers. Conscious Kitchen: CK addresses food equity, education, and access by shifting the paradigm around school food service while cultivating a local, ecological food system, and building nutrition literacy into meals. Through a collaborative, replicable approach, Conscious Kitchen partners with schools and communities to break the cycle of conventional, packaged, overly processed food, transitioning to meals based on five foundational attributes: fresh, local, organic, seasonal, and nutritious.

Turning Green is a proudly youth-driven organization that equips students with the resources, knowledge, and power to create positive environmental change on campuses, across communities, and beyond! This summer, we have the privilege of welcoming 17 new interns to our cohort to help Turning Green develop and achieve our mission to cultivate a healthy, just, resilient planet through education and advocacy around climate justice, environmental sustainability, and public health. Our interns are working on a variety of projects and teams such as communications, partner and prize outreach, Conscious Kitchen, Project Green Challenge writing, and more. We are so excited to share the highlights from our latest FLOSN (Fresh, Local, Organic, Seasonal, and Nutritious) Culinary Workshop, organized by Conscious Kitchen, a program of Turning Green, in collaboration with the Alice Waters Institute for Edible Education and Regenerative Agriculture This event brought together a diverse array of stakeholders in our movement, from local organic farmers to food service directors to social entrepreneurs to school nutrition professionals. The opportunity for these people to be in the same space together and troubleshoot issues and dream up new possibilities was priceless. The chefs were a huge part of bringing this event together. A big thank you to Chef Jennifer Sherman of the Alice Waters Institute and Carlos Cañada from Paicines Ranch for building the amazing menus and leading the Culinary Workshop. The recipes were 100% organic, and included Polenta with meatballs, tomato sauce, and sauteed greens, Rice noodle and chicken salad, and millet muffins, to name a few. Hosting the event at Paicines Ranch elevated the entire workshop with its gorgeous backdrops and inspiring mission. Sallie Calhoun, owner of Paicines Ranch, gave attendees a tour of the organic vineyard, which is regeneratively farmed, and everyone also got to see recently born baby sheep on the property. It was a time to be remembered and cherished.  These workshops are a great way to bring together so many of our goals as an organization. We not only get to help all attendees develop and practice culinary skills, but also paint a picture of what organic, local, nutritious food would look like in school cafeterias. Sometimes, just being able to visualize a new concept is all it takes to help it come to life. We believe that organic food is a crucial element of both human health and environmental health; and that you can’t have one without the other. We invite you to be a part of this ongoing journey towards a healthier, more eco-conscious world. Follow us on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and subscribe to our newsletter to stay up to date on our latest work. #TurningGreen #ConsciousKitchen #FLOSN #OrganicFarming #SustainableFuture #CulinaryWorkshop #Education #Community #HealthyEating #FarmToSchool #AliceWatersInstitute #PaicinesRanch #OrganicChefs #OrganicFarmers #California

🌱✨ We are thrilled to share the highlights from our latest FLOSN (Fresh, Local, Organic, Seasonal, and Nutritious) Culinary Workshop, organized by Conscious Kitchen, a program of Turning Green, in collaboration with the Alice Waters Institute for Edible Education and Regenerative Agriculture. This event was more than a workshop; it was a gathering of purpose-driven minds. We brought together the Food Service Directors from various school districts across the Bay Area and Central Coast of California, along with the heroes of our food system - the local organic farmers. These dedicated individuals grow and directly supply the freshest fruits and vegetables to our schools, playing a pivotal role in the farm-to-school movement to nourish the next generation. A special thank you goes to Chefs Jennifer Sherman (Alice Waters Institute), Carlos Cañada (Paicines Ranch), and Reylon Agustin (Post Ranch Inn) for leading this culinary expedition with wisdom and enthusiasm. Their expertise was instrumental in guiding our participants to prepare student-approved organic recipes that are both nutritious and delicious. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the organic farmers whose relentless dedication to the land and community makes all this possible. Your commitment to organic farming is the backbone of a healthier future for our children and the planet. Hosting the event at Paicines Ranch was nothing short of magical. Despite the torrential storms in the region, the ranch stood as a beacon of hope and beauty, offering breathtaking views of double rainbows and lush green mountains - a true testament to the resilience and beauty of nature. 🌍 Join Us on This Journey Our goal with these workshops is not just to impart culinary skills but to inspire a transformative movement towards organic, nutritious food in school dining halls. We believe in the power of good food to support both human health and environmental sustainability. We invite you to be a part of this ongoing journey towards a greener, healthier world. Follow our updates, engage with our initiatives, and let’s make a collective impact that echoes for generations to come. #TurningGreen #ConsciousKitchen #FLOSN #OrganicFarming #SustainableFuture #CulinaryWorkshop #Education #Community #HealthyEating #FarmToSchool #AliceWatersInstitute #PaicinesRanch #OrganicChefs #OrganicFarmers #California
