Meeting the real needs in the communities we serve.

About us

The Mutual Capital Group of Companies built its reputation on successfully serving the underserved in the insurance industry. While we’ve always supported worthwhile philanthropic causes within our footprint, the formation of the Tuscarora Wayne Mutual Foundation allows us to carry on that legacy and make an even greater impact. Together with our board of directors, we have developed a strategic vision to combat food insecurity. As we expand regionally and nationally, we work with many locales, our employees, our distribution partners, and our business partners to support existing community organizations that provide healthy food to children and families in need!

  • Miller Insurance, Jonestown, PA, was recently given the opportunity to choose a local charity that will receive a $1,000 donation from the Tuscarora Wayne Mutual Foundation.   The agency selected JOY (Jonestown Outreach Pantry) to be the recipient!   JOY was created with one idea in mind… to create a hunger-free community in the Northern Lebanon School District (PA). Last year, JOY merged with the Caring Cupboard in Palmyra, PA, and this merger has allowed them to now serve 40% of the population in Lebanon county.   JOY is a choice pantry. Four times a month, families may come in and select their own items. This organization receives close to 1,000,000 pounds of donated food each year which helps them serve their mission.   Pictured below are Chris Miller, Principal Agent, Miller Insurance; Stephanie Stanton, CISR, AFIS, Territory Manager at Tuscarora Wayne Insurance Company; and Shila Ulrich, Executive Director of JOY.

  • The Tuscarora Wayne Mutual Foundation was happy to work with Lighthouse Insurance Agency to distribute a $1,000 donation to the Erie City Mission! The city of Erie is the home to the poorest zip code in Pennsylvania, and the Erie City Mission exists to eliminate poverty in their city through its programs and services. The Erie City Mission works to cultivate a community of new life, break the cycle of hopelessness, and remains true to their mission of “Restoring Hope, Transforming Lives.” They serve free public breakfast and lunch daily in the Hagen Hall dining room to hundreds of men, women, and children. In an effort to reduce waste and to help feed the hungry, several local restaurants partner with the Mission in a food recovery program. This, along with monetary donations, have helped the Mission to serve over 119,000 meals to those in need! We thank them for their service to the community! • We are pleased to share that Mosholder Insurance was the most recent partner agency chosen to select a charity in their community to receive a $1,000 donation! Last week, the Somerset County Mobile Food Bank was presented with this monetary award. The Food Bank’s mission is “… to facilitate access to vital food resources for the residents of Somerset County.” This organization is able to achieve this through a multifaceted approach that combines centralized and mobile food distribution methods. The primary goal is to establish a collaborative network of food distributions that enhances the capacity of available food resources. Concurrently, they strive to engage with local food producers, incorporating their donated or saleable food items into their distribution system. The SMFB accomplishes their program totally through donations and grants. With over 100 active volunteers, they are able to serve those in need in Somerset County. • The Tuscarora Wayne Mutual Foundation was pleased to work with Enders Insurance to distribute a $1,000 donation this month. The agency chose the Panther Ram Foundation as the recipient. The Panther Ram Foundation supports programs to directly benefit students in the Central Dauphin Schools. Panther Ram Foundation’s mission is to provide NutriPacks over the weekends for food insecure students in the district. This year they are distributing to over 800 students each week. NutriPacks is a direct food distribution program for all students in the Central Dauphin School District. They provide weekend food and nutritional information to families for 30 weeks during the school year and are dedicated to helping food insecure children have the resources to thrive socially, emotionally, and academically. Backpacks for enrolled students are loaded weekly with nutritious meals and snacks for weekends and extended breaks throughout the school year. From time to time, distributions can also supply milk, bread, fresh eggs, fruit, and vegetables. The Central Dauphin School District is the largest school district in Dauphin County. The district’s 12,000+ students live in three boroughs - Dauphin, Paxtang, and Penbrook, and four townships - Lower Paxton, Middle Paxton, Swatara and West Hanover. Students attend 13 elementary schools, four middle schools, two high schools and the district-run cyber school. • The Boys and Girls Club of St. Mary’s is the most recent recipient of the Tuscarora Wayne Mutual Foundation’s $1,000 donation!   The Boys and Girls Club provides youth development services and programs to students enrolled in grades K-12. The club designs programs around six focus areas: education, character and leadership development, health and wellness, art programs, sports and recreation, and career development. Their mission is to “… support all children and young adults, especially those who need us the most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible individuals,” and we are hopeful that our donation will be able to help continue this mission!   We thank Acrisure, the agency that selected this charity, along with Tuscarora Wayne Insurance Company Territory Manager, Carrie Nicewonger.   Pictured below are Joe Jacob, Chief Executive Officer of the Boys and Girls Club of St. Mary’s; Carrie Nicewonger; John Mulcahy, Partner, Advisory Council Mid-Atlantic Region, Acrisure.

  • Montgomery and Weigle Insurance, located in Gettysburg, PA, was chosen by Tuscarora Wayne Insurance Company Territory Manager Stephanie Stanton, CISR, AFIS to select a charity in their community to receive a $1,000 donation.   Shannon Montgomery and Wendi Weigle picked The Adams Rescue Mission (ARM) and Agape House. ARM’s mission is to assist the hungry, homeless, abused, and addicted. They provide other services such as a thrift store which resells clothing, household goods, furniture, etc.; a greenhouse, which is both sustainable income for ARM, and another training program for residents; and a large recycling center, where many of the men from the shelter work. The Agape House, where the donation will be applied, houses women and children that are homeless, but it is more than just a shelter. The organizers have designed a program that provides opportunities for displaced women and families to become integrated into the community. They work together with other local agencies to help clients find employment, housing, childcare, and educational resources.   The Tuscarora Wayne Mutual Foundation thanks our insurance partners, and we are happy to help The Adams Rescue Mission and Agape House with this donation!   Pictured below are, from left to right: Shannon Montgomery, Stephanie Stanton, Wendi Weigle, and Heidi Acker, Promotion & Development Director at ARM.

  • The Tuscarora Wayne Mutual Foundation awarded a $1,000 donation to the Salvation Army of Wayne County (OH), a charity chosen by the Hummel Group. Tuscarora Wayne Insurance Company Territory Manager Stacey Hocker selected Hummel Group last month due to having a very strong production year and becoming the fastest growing agency in Ohio.   Located in Wooster, Ohio, the Salvation Army of Wayne County runs a soup kitchen five days per week, serving an average of 35 meals per day, during the lunch hour.   They also operate a shelter for emergency and transitional housing. Here they serve approximately 20 meals per day, seven days a week, to shelter residents. Being a part of the Akron/Canton Food Bank allows them to gather ingredients for meals at a reduced cost. In addition, they accept commercial donations of leftover food and have a chef who excels in putting together nutritious meals with diverse ingredients. They also have a senior meals program once a week.       Pictured from left to right: Stacey Hocker; Major Thomas Clark, Salvation Army of Wayne County; and Vaughn Troyer, Hummel Group.

  • The Tuscarora Wayne Mutual Foundation is pleased to have worked with Lebanon Valley Insurance Company Territory Manager Carrie Nicewonger in distributing a $1,000 donation to the South Hills Interfaith Ministries (SHIM), a charity selected by Exchange Underwriters Inc. Born in 1968, SHIM has been providing food, clothing, and services to people in need in Pittsburgh’s southern suburban neighborhoods ever since. Faced with unprecedented new levels of suburban poverty, SHIM is expanding its work to include helping more neighbors in need. With teams of dedicated volunteers, donors, and partners, they are working to reduce the devastating effects of suburban poverty among the working poor, unemployed, families, single parents, senior citizens, women, and the high concentration of refugee families in their service area. Pictured below are James Guffey, SHIMS executive director, and Edward Powell, Exchange Underwriters.
