The Emerging Leaders Program highlights the future leaders of the credit union industry, and Zach and Craig presented a topic vital to the continued success of our movement. Outstanding work, Zach and Craig!

This week, in celebration of International Heritage Month, we are excited to delve into Filipino and Arabic cultures with Keana! The Philippines, an archipelago of over 7,000 islands, is renowned for its stunning landscapes, from majestic mountains to pristine beaches. Keana has had the joy of discovering various parts of the country including the famous Chocolate Hills, active volcanoes, delicious food, and warm hospitality. In contrast, Saudi Arabia, where Keana was born and spent the first 13 years of her life, presents a different kind of beauty. A beauty that is quite the opposite of the Philippines! The vast deserts are mesmerizing, and despite the arid environment, the country features incredible beaches along the Red Sea, where you can float effortlessly for hours. Keana cherishes the local food, music, and unique weather patterns, including the rare but dramatic rainfall that often leads to flooding. The cultural richness of Saudi Arabia shines during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, where the entire nation comes together in religious observance, sharing meals and celebrations with family and friends. Something that truly must be experienced in-person! Keana’s story reminds us of the beauty in cultural diversity. As we celebrate International Heritage Month, let's continue to explore and appreciate the rich traditions that make each culture special! #UKFCU

It's back to school time and as the Official Credit Union of the University of Kentucky, we are always looking for ways to support students. Which is why we spent the morning helping out with Big Blue Move-In! We are thankful for the special moments that we got to witness this morning, as these young adults stepped into the next chapter. To continue our celebration of UKFCU International Heritage Month, we now want to you to meet Mike Ahern and learn about Irish culture! Irish culture has made a huge impact on the world, but not everything you think of as Irish actually is! For example, nobody says "top of the morning to you" and you'd have a very hard time finding corned beef and cabbage anywhere on the island! Aside from that though, Ireland is a stunningly beautiful island with spectacular scenery to be found on the Rings of Beara and Kerry in the southwest to the Giant's Causeway in the northeast. While many sports are played in Ireland, none are as unique and intrinsically Irish as hurling (iománaíocht in Irish), a sport that dates back over 3,000 years that can best be described as a mixture of field hockey and murder. Irish music, like traditional dance music such as reels, jigs and hornpipes are known throughout the world, along with sean-nós singing, which are usually laments with no musical accompaniment. We've also made huge contributions to literature and cinema, with the first person in history to win a Nobel Prize and an Oscar coming from Ireland (George Bernard Shaw). Finally, while Halloween is celebrated throughout the world, the holiday actually has its roots in Ireland's Celtic pagan past. Oíche Shamhna would take place on October 31st, with the lighting of bonfires and rendering of offerings and sacrifices blurring the lines of this world and the other world, allowing us to make contact with the aos sí (faeries). And while it may not make sense on social media, the next time you say goodbye, why not throw in a "Go n-éirí an bóthar leat" for a true Irish parting blessing! #UKFCU

What good is having an in-school UKFCU branch at the Academies of Frederick Douglass High School if we don't try to take the drudgery out of going back to school? With Fayette County Public Schools starting their new academic year tomorrow, we figured we would welcome the teachers back with coffee, bagels, muffins, fruit and more. We hope we got them started on the right track for another amazing school year!
