With funding from UMI Fund, the You(th)Adapt Initiative started implementation of the Intergenerational Climate Justice Conversation Circles in Mbire, Ward 8 & 11 in No 2023. These community dialogues have proven to be a powerful tool to facilitate open and constructive discussions about climate change. Through simple yet thought-provoking questions, we encouraged the older generation to share their experiences How was life for you? How was the climate? How did we treat the planet? What did we do? And what shall we do for future generations? Through this our goal was to ensure the young generation 1. Learn from practice, traditional knowledge and cultural heritage 2. Adopt agroecology and other sustainable practices 3. Create movements around critical issues 4. Think the business side of climate change 5. Participate in advocating for change The You(th)Adapt Initiative successfully contributed to the Climate Change Management Bill and the Parks and Wildlife Amendment Bill Consultations Be on the look for our knowledge product 💚

They used their convening micro-grant to bring over 30 girls and young women aged 13 to 25 together to dive deep into topics around climate justice, Afro-ecofeminism, disaster risk reduction, feminist participatory action research, and body mapping. 💚

These past few months have been a whirlwind of passion and dedication as I worked tirelessly to turn a lifelong dream into reality! From assembling a team of passionate volunteers—gender and feminist activists—to designing a comprehensive workshop curriculum, securing amazing feminist facilitators Danai Daisy Chirawu, Natalie Gwatirisa, and Caroline Mutimbanyoka and coordinating vendors. It has been an intense project management journey. But every challenge was worth it when we welcomed our first changemakers with Girl UP Zimbabwe ( Timukudze Hungwe & Nyasha Natasha Muzadzi) to our workshop series under the Girls Front and Centre: Girl-Centred Approaches to Climate and Disaster Risk Reduction project. Over 30 girls and young women aged 13 to 25 came together for three days to dive deep into topics like climate justice, Afro-ecofeminism, disaster risk reduction, feminist participatory action research, and body mapping. Their enthusiasm was infectious as they engaged, networked, and shared personal stories about the impact of climate-induced disasters in their communities. With the insights gained from the workshop, these young leaders are now embarking on mini-research projects aimed at identifying climate and disaster-related challenges in their communities in Harare, Bindura, and Epworth. But they won't stop at identification—they're committed to developing actionable solutions that ensure their vision for change becomes a reality. And the journey doesn't end here! In September, we'll be expanding our reach, engaging with 50 more girls from Warren Park and Mufakose. I'm extremely excited to continue this impactful work with our partners Youth Vibes Afrika, Ruvarashe Miti and The Usawa Institute. Reunimos no Lab Procomum, em Santos, Baixada Santista, comunicadores, organizadores, mobilizadores, criativos, ativistas de 15 países e de 32 organizações da América Latina, África, Oriente Médio e Ásia, para compartilharem suas expertises e experiências, aprenderem juntas, falarmos sobre recursos, política, desafios comuns, soluções encontradas e fortalecimento mutuo. “Buscamos construir soluções que respondam não apenas à crise climática, mas também às desigualdades que ela exacerba. O Instituto Procomum se posiciona como um articulador dessas soluções, unindo movimentos sociais, ativistas e lideranças locais e globais para discutir um novo modelo de sociedade”, resume Georgia Nicolau, diretora do Procomum. O evento irá até a próxima sexta, 30 de agosto, e serão discutidos temas como justiça climática racismo ambiental, financiamento climático, incidência, narrativas & comunicação e redes de cuidado entre ativistas.
