“It’s very simple. If fighting doesn't stop, polio vaccinators are unable to reach children. Gaza has been polio-free for 25 years until now. Failing to respect these pauses would be an unforgivable failure for the children in Gaza and the region who have already suffered so much. Most of all, children in Gaza need a ceasefire, protection from all forms of harm, access to healthcare, safe water, and sanitation. And all hostages must be released unconditionally and reunited with loved ones.” - Catherine Russell, UNICEF Executive Director.

As a member of the community she serves, Esperanza has been able to establish meaningful connections with them to help build trust in vaccines. Every day, she braves rugged terrains with a backpack full of health supplies to deliver trust, hope, and vaccines to children and families living in the most remote areas. “I feel like I save lives,” she says—and indeed she does.
