Over 25 million Americans need language assistance daily. Is your call center ready to support them effectively? Over-the-phone interpretation (OPI) is a powerful tool to connect your multilingual customers with interpreters in their native language. However, poor implementation can lead to frustration. Here are four critical call center quality issues to avoid when using OPI: 1. Access issues: Make sure your interface is user-friendly and that your equipment provides clear connections. 2. Interpreter quality issues: Prioritize interpreter skill, subject matter expertise, and cultural competency. 3. Outdated technology: Leverage scalable, up-to-date tech to connect customers efficiently. 4. Inadequate quality assurance: Regularly monitor and improve key metrics like ASA, AHT, and CSAT. By addressing these issues, your multilingual customers will receive the high level of support they deserve. Follow us for more insights on how to best serve diverse consumers or reach out for personalized assistance. #CallCenter #Interpreting #ContactCenter

Do you need to raise the bar on the language services you offer for the diverse communities you serve? These 5 essential steps will help you create a comprehensive language access plan! 1️⃣ Assess your community’s needs: Understand the languages and cultural backgrounds of your community to deliver targeted support. Also, be aware of which languages you’re required to cover by law, and what you’re required to provide in those languages. 2️⃣ Outline the services: Define the scope of services (translation and interpretation), delivery options (on-demand vs. scheduled), and quality assurance measures to ensure accuracy and cultural relevance. 3️⃣ Promote your services: Use multilingual posters, audible announcements, and staff ID badges to spread the word. Make sure people know the available languages and scheduling options. 4️⃣ Train employees: Provide comprehensive training on language services and cultural competency to make sure staff can deliver high-quality services confidently and competently. 5️⃣ Evaluate your plan: Regularly review your program metrics, and collect feedback through surveys or comment cards to refine and enhance your services. By following these steps, your organization can break down language barriers and foster inclusive communication. Ready to make a difference? Contact ULG for expert guidance on launching your language access plan. 🌍✨

This month’s Employee Spotlight shines on Linda Yousif, our Quality and Training Manager. Linda joined our team in January of 2021 as a quality assurance specialist in our Interpretation Department, and she moved up to her current role in September 2022. Her favorite part of working with ULG is her team, who she calls “a very dedicated hard-working professional group that is very supportive day in and day out.” Although they are spread out geographically, with members in the US and Mumbai, they work closely together to provide our interpreters with valuable feedback and opportunities for professional development so that the people and businesses we help get the highest quality service. Despite being remote, the team stays connected with regular meetings and challenges like walks for wellness month. Her favorite ULG memory is receiving the “You Rock” award recognizing outstanding performance and commitment. Her favorite ULG accomplishment is simply seeing her team continue to grow, succeed and continue to ensure that our interpreters are providing the best possible experience to everyone they assist. Linda came here from Iraq with her family in 2001, and she speaks Assyrian, Aramaic, Arabic, and English. Her favorite quote comes from the Bible: “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” It reminds her to be patient with life’s ups and down, continue moving forward and keep doing the best she can. Her favorite words are hope, kindness, patience and faith. When she’s not listening to calls or coaching interpreters at ULG, you’ll find Linda walking, traveling, exploring new cities, or spending time with her family. Thank you, Linda, for sharing your time and talents with us. We’re lucky to have you as part of the ULG team!

From the emergency room to the courtroom and beyond, interpreters are the real-life superheroes we rely on. 🦸 But how do we ensure they're equipped for every challenge? Explore the world of interpreting services to find the right tools for different real-life scenarios. 👇 🔹 Customer Service: Quick queries or support calls are where OPI shines, providing instant language support to keep customer satisfaction high. 🔹 Healthcare: In life-or-death situations or sensitive medical consultations, nothing beats the personal touch of On-Site Interpretation (OSI) or Video Remote Interpretation (VRI) for faster access to a wider variety of languages. 🔹 Legal and Government: Accuracy and confidentiality are non-negotiable. OSI is standard for trials and hearings, while Over-the-Phone Interpretation (OPI) offers swift access for public services. 🔹 Education: Engaging parents in their child's learning journey? VRI is the easiest way to build a personal connection to ensure no one is left behind, making every parent-teacher meeting inclusive. 🔹 Business: For global meetings that feel as personal as a handshake, Remote Simultaneous Interpretation (RSI) allows seamless multi-lingual discussions, propelling international collaboration forward. Interpreters bridge worlds with their skills, but choosing the right type of service, or mix of services, amplifies their impact. 🌐✨ 👉 Follow us for more insights into the transformative power of interpreting services or contact us to speak with an expert who can tailor a solution to your unique needs.
