In January 1995, United Power launched Operation Round Up. In 2015, the cooperative celebrated 20 years and $1.5 million in charitable grants distributed. And since its inception, the program has distributed more than $3 million in support. The Round Up Foundation is funded by our members who round up their monthly bills. 💵 Operation Round Up is an excellent example of how a little change can go a long way. Do you “round up?” It’s easy! Powering Lives, Powering Change, Powering the Future -- the Cooperative way.
About us
United Power is a not-for-profit electric cooperative, owned by the customer-members who receive electricity from us. We are governed by a member-elected board of directors, who direct the operations of the cooperative, oversee needed rate changes, and help the staff and employees plan for the future of the company. Through careful management and constant improvements in technology, United Power demonstrates its commitment to being the Utility of Choice by using innovation and efficiency to provide economical and reliable power to our members. United Power is a rural electric cooperative, providing electric service to homes and businesses throughout Colorado’s northern front range. The service territory extends from the mountains of Coal Creek and Golden Gate Canyon to the farmlands of Brighton, Hudson and Keenesburg.

Please join us in congratulating Troy Whitmore, VP & Public Affairs Officer, on his retirement from United Power. For an incredible 38 years, 3 months, and 13 days, Troy served as the heart and voice of our cooperative. Throughout his career, he not only helped shape our cooperative's messaging and government outreach, but he has also been a pillar in our communities - advocating tirelessly for our members and championing the cooperative's mission. We extend our deepest gratitude for your service to this cooperative and for being a friend to everyone you meet. You will be greatly missed, but your legacy (and those humorous quips you’ve left with us over the years) will continue to inspire us and remind us to have fun. From all of us at United Power, we wish you a happy, healthy, and fulfilling retirement! 🎉 #HappyRetirement #ElectricCooperative

Yesterday United Power hosted members of the NextGen Co-op Alliance on a tour of the cooperative’s service area. The group visited Golden Aluminum United Power’s largest account, and the co-op’s Carbon Valley Service Area and battery storage installation. NextGen Co-op Alliance is a coalition of electric co-ops, including United Power, that learn from one another, share best practices, and leverage resources to work toward the most equitable power supply for their members. Their shared goals are to restore local control, increase clean energy, stabilize rates, and drive local economic development through innovative energy solutions.

What makes an electric cooperative unique to other business models? For starters, an electric cooperative is not-for-profit. We provide electricity at the cost of service and return margins back to the membership in the form of capital credits. Members also have the opportunity to vote for the cooperative board and we are BIG on community. Connecting with our members and giving back are what makes an electric cooperative special. The United Power team is here for good! #ElectricCooperative #UnitedPower #Colorado

Last week, United Power hosted a booth at the Colorado Municipal League (CML) Annual Conference. It is a pleasure for the cooperative to attend this conference, which gathers over 1,200 leaders from municipalities across the state. United Power is proud to power all or parts of 17 Colorado communities and we are here to help each community power the futures they envision.
