About us

United Way of San Diego County is improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of the San Diego community. Everyone deserves opportunities to have a good life: a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health. Our Vision United Way envisions a vibrant community built on opportunity for everyone. Our Mission To spark breakthrough community action that elevates every child and family toward a brighter future. The foundation for a child’s success starts with family stability. That’s why United Way is primarily invested in the early years: to set kids on the right path toward academic achievement. Because without a solid start in school, most kids won’t succeed. And without family stability – a supportive home, enough income to live, access to health care – a child can’t thrive in school. United Way helps fill in the gaps. We all benefit when our neighbors are successful and thriving. Join the movement! Stay updated on positive change in San Diego and be the first to hear about our events and opportunities to engage through volunteering and advocacy by subscribing to our bi-monthly newsletter at uwsd.org.

Our President & CEO, Nancy L. Sasaki, recently appeared on Fox 5 News to discuss United Way of San Diego County's partnership with SDG&E to provide crucial funding for San Diego flood relief efforts. These funds have been distributed to the Harvey Family Foundation and San Diego VOAD, organizations offering direct support to flood-affected families. Nancy shared the ongoing challenges faced by our community and how this support is making a difference. A big thank you to Fox 5 News and Scatena Daniels Communications for helping us spread the word about this critical need! Watch the full interview here: https://bit.ly/UWSDFox5

  • Take a look at the Capstone projects created by our Dream with STEAM summer program participants! To encourage cross-collaboration and relationship-building to expand their network, program participants were divided into groups based on their personalities and asked to reflect on their learnings and experiences during the program.  During the program celebration, held at the end of the four weeks, each group presented to attending parents - truly a heartwarming and proud moment to witness! We are so proud of each student and the culmination of their teamwork!

  • Findings in the latest Scholastics Friends and Family Reading Report* reinforce the importance of establishing strong reading habits, illustrating that solid reading skills lead to emotional and educational success. The findings reveal that children who were frequent readers experienced a positive impact on their mental health post-pandemic compared to those who read infrequently, driving home the importance of this activity in mental and emotional development.  Want to learn more about how you can build literacy-rich environments for your family? ➡️ Read our full blog article at https://lnkd.in/gqQB966v  *Reference:

  • We are overflowing with gratitude for support from The Art Pratt Foundation of Old Mission Rotary Club! 💛 Thanks to the Foundation, we were able to update the exterior seating at our office headquarters to create an ADA-compliant space. The awarded funds help us ensure all tenants and visitors can navigate our building easily and enjoy the shared spaces.  Thank you to The Art Pratt Foundation of Old Mission Rotary Club for helping make monumental strides in creating equitable spaces for individuals with disabilities in our San Diego County community. Check out the new accessible outdoor space at our office!
