👏 Let's give a big congratulations to our latest DAISY Foundation Award winner, Teri Bellan, RN! 💐 Teri, a Medical Emergency Response Interventional Team nurse, was nominated for "(speaking) to the patient instead of about the patient" and always explaining what's happening. Specifically, she was nominated for making a patient more at ease in some of his final moments. Thank you, Teri, for your dedication to improving your patients' lives.🌟

    • Five individuals holding a banner that reads "Congratulate Our DAISY Award Honoree!" in celebration of the award for Teri Bellan, RN. They are standing in an office, all wearing red lanyards and two are in red jackets.
    • An image featuring a green square with white text that provides an excerpt from The DAISY Award nomination, describing a compassionate nurse at UofL Hospital who comforted a patient by sharing jokes and continued conversation, detailing the patient's appreciation in their last moments. The entire text reads: "Teri does her best to keep patients calm throughout what could be the worst day of their lives. In one case, Teri started a conversation with a patient with very low blood pressure to keep him awake while I was giving medications. She tried to find common ground with the patient and at last landed upon the brilliant idea of showing off her chicken impression. Patient started laughing and Teri continued to keep the conversation going by telling dad jokes. The patient laughed, became more relaxed with Teri and started telling her jokes. The patient was later made comfort care and passed away. Some of his last moments were made better by Teri's empathy and kindness."

The UofL Hospital Trauma team recently hosted a community Stop the Bleed training at Republic Bank Foundation YMCA. Attendees learn techniques like applying pressure, packing a wound and using a tourniquet to stop life-threatening bleeding. UofL Health does about 60 Stop the Bleed trainings per year, including private classes and quarterly events open to the community ▶️ ULHealth.co/3jRJB3E

"You really define who you are in those dark moments ... Who are you in those moments? That has nothing to do with what you have or what you possess and everything to do with what's in your heart." Live Beyond: A Celebration of Trauma Survivors shared survivors' stories of triumph through a sentimental art exhibit at the Speed Art Museum. Photographer Scotty Perry, writer Conner Mackowiak and art therapist Amy Mattingly spent time with survivors—whose injuries ranged from gunshot wounds to burns to car accidents—to capture their stories. 🔗 ULHealth.co/3WKT1Pw

UofL Health celebrated #TraumaSurvivorsDay by hosting a sentimental art exhibit that shared and celebrated survivors' stories of triumph. Live Beyond: A Celebration of Trauma Survivors, centered around kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending cracks with lacquered gold. The process is intended to treat breakage and repair as part of an object's history instead of something to disguise.
