Leading groups and advocates from the community violence intervention (CVI) movement unveiled the landmark CVI Action Plan to sustain and scale CVI initiatives across the country. Urban Peace Institute was proud to serve on the coordinating committee alongside leaders from Community Justice Action Fund, The Health Alliance for Violence Intervention, The National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (NICJR), and Community Based Public Safety Collective. For decades, the CVI workforce has put their lives on the line to curb community violence and save lives. The evidence shows that this approach works. The CVI Action Plan underscores the urgent need to invest in and build the capacity of frontline organizations to create community safety and re-define public safety nationwide. Gun violence is a public health crisis that disproportionately harms Black and Brown communities in America. Urban Peace Academy Spring 2024 Graduation! 🎉🎓 Twenty peacemakers recently graduated from the Urban Peace Academy after completing the 144-hour certification training. Participants committed their time and energy to deepening their knowledge of community violence intervention and established valuable relationships with classmates and instructors. Urban Peace Institute is proud to partner with Ballmer Group to implement the LA Peacemakers Initiative that will create safety in communities disproportionately impacted by violence. The Mayor’s Office of Community Safety, in collaboration with UPI and other partners organized a series of Regional Safety Strategy Meetings with peacemakers across Los Angeles and nearby areas. The groups focused on collective goal setting to prioritize safety efforts like Summer Night Lights throughout the summer.
