While in Kyiv, I often visited the Honey Cafe for breakfast. It was there that I discovered Ukraine's tradition since March 2022 of observing a minute of silence every day at 9 AM for the fallen defenders of Ukraine. The efforts to honor these heroes extend beyond this daily ritual. In this photo, each flag stands as a solemn tribute to a lost hero. This place, one of the many in Kyiv where people come to honor and mourn the defenders—most of them young men and women—holds a sacredness that made it difficult to capture in pictures. Amidst the sorrow, the unwavering resilience and hope of the Ukrainian people continues to inspire me. Let us do all we can to support Ukraine during this time. URC project leaders and technical staff from Ghana and Uganda helped organize and participated in the National Quality Forum in Ghana on July 17-18. The event was held to focus on creating a sustainable pathway for universal health coverage in Ghana through quality care and to launch the new National Healthcare Quality Strategy (2024 to 2030). The event was organized under the Ghana Ministry of Health (MoH), represented by the Deputy Minister of Health, Hon. Alexander Awasi Acquah, and MoH Director for PPME, Emma Ofori Agyeman. Other participants in the forum included representatives from URC, the World Health Organization, USAID Ghana, UNICEF, World Vision, and SafeCare. URC implements the USAID Quality Services for Health Activity (Q4H) in Ghana, which supports Ghana’s public and private health system actors to sustainably improve health services quality across Ghana. USAID Q4H assisted the MoH in setting the objectives for the forum, developing the agenda, keynote speakers and moderators, branding, and administrative and financial support – including the venue and lodging for some of the participants. Q4H also coached members of the facility quality improvement teams in preparing and giving their poster presentations at the forum. They submitted seven high-quality abstracts, three of which were admitted for oral presentation. The forum ended with a call to the MoH, its agencies, and partners to support the implementation of quality governance structures and coordination activities, promote interagency coordination, initiate workforce welfare programs, invest in the quality space, and build a culture of quality. A URC-implemented health care quality improvement activity in Jordan is helping 20 hospital teams improve their collaboration and communication to enhance teamwork and creative problem-solving – with LEGOs®. But this is not child’s play. Following last year's leadership and management training for more than 150 public sector hospital management staff in Jordan, the USAID Health Services Quality Accelerator Activity started innovative coaching sessions for management teams, conducted by a certified LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® coach, to enhance collaboration, creative problem-solving, and innovative thinking. During these sessions, each hospital team builds models with LEGO bricks to help them reflect on their roles, enhance teamwork, and refine the work setting. Through more effective dialogue among team members, they develop and test new ways of working aligned with their hospital's goals and objectives. “Going beyond essential leadership and management training, the Activity commitment to ongoing innovative coaching inspires and motivates healthcare managers,” said Dr. Issam El Adawi, Chief of Party of the Activity. “Such a practical and results-oriented approach will contribute to a more responsive health system, higher-quality health services, and improved well-being and quality of life for children, mothers, families, and communities across Jordan.” Said one of the team members: “The most beautiful part is that the idea you're imagining becomes tangible, shaping the idea into a model. When the idea takes form, it becomes adaptable. Once the idea becomes palpable, it generates new emotions and horizons.” Learn more about the HSQA Activity: https://bit.ly/3WGIvr5 USAID
