Today, the Navy JAG Corps held a change of office and retirement ceremony aboard the Washington Navy Yard in D.C. During the event – which was presided over by Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro – Vice Adm. Darse E. “Del” Crandall, Jr. retired and was relieved by Vice Adm. Christopher C. French., who became the 46th Navy JAG. Rear Adm. Lia Reynolds assumed the duties of the Navy’s Deputy JAG. ⚖️⚓

Congratulations to Navy judge advocates Lt. Manal Cheema and Lt. Ariel Sarandinaki for receiving the 2024 Robertson Prize in International Law for their article, "Maritime Autonomy and Liability: Navigating Uncharted Waters." Cheema serves as staff judge advocate at US Naval Base Guam. She earned her law degree from University of Virginia School of Law Sarandinaki serves as staff judge advocate at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi and NAS Kingsville. She earned her law degree from Harvard Law School. The Robertson Prize was first established in 2021, and is given to the author of an original, previously unpublished article. The entrants are judged by the U.S. Naval War College Stockton Center for International Law and the Navy Judge Advocate General (JAG). The award is named in honor of Rear Admiral Horace B. Robertson, who served as the Navy JAG from 1975 to 1976, and was a prolific scholar in the law of armed conflict and law of the sea. #BravoZulu #StaffJudgeAdvocate #NavyJAGCorps
