USCIB's policy team met in Washington earlier this week for our first in-person retreat since the pandemic. We spent a lot of time and brainpower thinking about how to better serve member needs and expand our policy development and advocacy work. And we even braved a classic DC summer deluge to enjoy some team building on the Potomac. 🚢 ⛈ ☔ Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ekKzsiuK

The Power to Shape Policy. The Power to Expedite Trade.
About us
The United States Council for International Business (USCIB) advances the global interests of American business. We do so through advocacy that calls for an open system of world trade, finance and investment, where business can flourish and contribute to economic growth, human welfare and environmental protection. No other American business organization provides its members with better access to key intergovernmental bodies worldwide. USCIB’s advocacy spans a broad range of policy issues, leveraging the expertise of our business members and a unique network of global business organizations: the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Business at OECD, and the International Organization of Employers (IOE). Through these organizations’ official consultative status in major intergovernmental forums, USCIB represents American business positions both to the U.S. government and to such organizations such as the UN system, the OECD and the International Labor Organization. The Power to Shape Policy. The Power to Expedite Trade.

As companies explore the possibilities of the metaverse, they also seek to understand and address the new privacy risks it raises. Realizing the promise of the metaverse will depend on fostering user trust through implementation and adherence to coherent, broadly accepted privacy governance frameworks that provide effective protections but do not impede innovation. In a report launched today, Business at OECD (BIAC) and The USCIB Foundation explore privacy issues raised by the metaverse and the applicability of OECD Privacy Guidelines in this emerging environment.
📢 NEW REPORT 🌐 Today, we are proud to launch our joint United States Council for International Business (USCIB) Foundation report “Privacy, Immersive Technologies, and the Metaverse”. Thank you to Ingka Group, the LEGO Group, Telefonica, NEC Corporation, & Meta for their use cases contributions. 🔍 Read here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e_P4mYBU

Today, The USCIB Foundation and the Moving the Needle initiative convened a roundtable: Navigating the UN Summit of the Future and Beyond with Business: Tackling Climate Change Across the Global Pact for the Future. The event, hosted by Microsoft, featured remarks from Whitney Baird, President & CEO, USCIB; Ambassador Chris Lu, US Ambassador for UN Management and Reform; and Ambassador Norberto Moretti, Deputy Permanent Representative of Brazil to the UN. A key theme was the importance of private sector engagement and partnership in action, as an indispensable part of a stronger, more effective UN fit to tackle current and future challenges. An engaged private sector is critical to the UN being able to deliver on its goals: advancing energy transitions, reducing unabated greenhouse gas emissions and mobilizing resources for mitigation and adaptation are just a few elements of a comprehensive climate change agenda on economic and social levels. USCIB Statement on Canadian Digital Services Tax: USCIB was disappointed that on June 28, Canada moved forward with its discriminatory and retroactive Digital Services Tax. Taking this step to implement a measure that targets US companies is inconsistent with Canada’s international commitments, will serve to undermine the US-Canada trade relationship, and will set a dangerous precedent for other countries to copy — all to the detriment of the international tax and trade systems. As we, and numerous other industry groups recommended in our recent letter to US Trade Representative Katherine Tai, the US must take prompt and decisive action and initiate formal dispute settlement procedures with Canada through consultations under the US-Mexico-Canada Free Trade Agreement (USMCA). The increased costs of these actions will be felt by small businesses and other consumers of targeted products and services, stoking inflation.
