#TrainingTuesday Recently, U.S. Coast Guard Station Port Angeles, and U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles hit the Straits of Juan de Fuca in Washington State for some joint hoist and rescue training, colloquially known in the USCG as Helo-Ops. Helo-Ops, or Helicopter Operations, are part of regular training between the crews of an air station and boat station. This training ensures these crews remain #alwaysready during joint responses and helps crewmembers work together seamlessly while responding to those in distress. #USCG #CoastGuard #training #SAR #PortAngeles #WA #SemperParatus

#motivationmonday Teamwork makes the dream work! Recently, the Coast Guard Station St. Petersburg and Eckerd College Search and Rescue boat crews displayed coordinated teamwork during a response mission to rescue a 40-foot boat taking on water with five boaters aboard near Pinellas Bayway bridge in Florida. The crews worked together to secure the flooding on the vessel and get the individuals safely to shore. Working with local partner agencies is an integral part of our core mission to protect mariners on the waters and around the coastlines of the United States. #USCG #CoastGuard #partnerships #response #assist #SAR

Attention to award! This year’s winner of the George Gray Award is Ken Stetz for their art title "Absorbing the Roll". This award is named for the co-founder of the Coast Guard Art Program and is awarded each year in recognition of one Coast Guard artist for outstanding artistic achievement. George Gray worked as an artist for more than seven decades and specialized in historical and military themes. With a love for the military, he enlisted in the Coast Guard during WWII. During the Vietnam War he spent six weeks sketching Marines in action for the U.S. Navy’s fine arts program. He co-founded COGAP in the early 1980’s and served as its chairman for over 20 years. He passed away in 2004 at the age of 96. Aids to Navigation 🟥🟩 Coast Guard Cutter Harry Claiborne’s crew is hard at work in Houston-Galveston, Texas, following Hurricane Beryl, ensuring any displaced Aids to Navigation (ATON) are returned to their correct positions. ATON is critical, especially post natural disaster, to ensure safe and secure navigation along the economically vital Marine Transportation System. #USCG #CoastGuard #uscgberyl #hurricaneberyl #hurricaneszn2024

#WhereAreWeWednesday A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk aircrew at this location recently tested new hoisting techniques that allow for the simultaneous recovery of a rescue swimmer and litter, streamlining operations and enhancing safety for those we rescue. HINTS: 1. The air station is located in the oldest city of the state. 2. The air station’s AOR (area of responsibility) includes approximately 12,000 miles of isolated and rugged coastlines. 3. You can only reach this unit by boat or aircraft. 4. A dormant volcano is easily visible from the air station. 5. The air station is located on the same latitude as Riga, the capital of Latvia. #USCG #CoastGuard #SAR #training #helicopter #volcano

Meet Petty Officer Third Class Lauren Uhl, an Avionics Electrical Technician at U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Savannah “Women benefit the U.S. Coast Guard by bringing a different perspective to the service,” said Uhl. “Having a diverse workforce allows us to tackle bigger-picture issues with several opposite and unique points of view.” “My advice to the younger generation of women wanting to join the Coast Guard or military, in general, would be to not let anyone, even yourself, convince you that you’re not capable of doing something just because you’re a female." "Growing up, my dad always told me I could do anything a boy can do. That has always stuck with me and played a huge role in me pursuing a career in a predominantly male profession.” Fun fact: Uhl's father served for 21 years in the USCG Visit gocoastguard.com to learn more about opportunities available to you in the United States Coast Guard.
