서울에서 열린 IT 연합 채용 세미나에 Speak이 참석했습니다. Speak의 가슴 뛰는 여정에 함께할 동료를 찾기 위한 자리였어요. Speak이 걸어온 길과 앞으로 나아갈 길에 대해 발표했고, 예상보다 훨씬 많은 분들이 Speak에 뜨거운 관심을 가져주셔서 놀랄 정도였습니다. 발표가 끝나고 이어진 네트워킹 세션에서는 Speak의 멤버들과 이야기를 나누고 싶어하는 수많은 사람들 때문에 발표가 끝나고도 우리는 한동안 행사장을 뜨지 못했답니다. 한국에서의 Speak의 인기를 실감할 수 있었던 자리였습니다!

This month we’re shouting out Sean K. – our Senior Android Engineer based in San Francisco. Sean joined in January following an impressive career developing Android apps for companies including Amazon, Slack and most recently Square. He joined Speak because he deeply resonates with our product, which addresses the common struggles of language learners. “As a 1.5 generation Korean-American who grew up learning English as a second language in the US, I always wished for a friend with deep knowledge of both languages to help me build confidence speaking, to learn and practice more practical English rather than textbook English.” Sean’s excited to continue contributing to a team who understands and tackles language learning challenges, making it more accessible for everyone. He’s contributing in a big way on the Android team. “My favorite project has been creating interoperability solutions to modernize our Android codebase,” Sean said. He also worked on the Android side of our recent updates to Speak’s automatic speech recognition system. Today is National Intern Day, so it’s only fitting to give a shout out to our super SF interns Chen (Alina) & Kyuho! Alina wears both PM and designer hats as she works across different pods to create the best user experience for Speak. After noticing a gap in design on a recent product update, she jumped in to tackle what was missing and elevated the final output. Kyuho similarly made an immediate impact upon joining. He revamped our design system, working closely with engineers and designers to ensure the look and feel of Speak was consistent across all platforms. We are deeply appreciative of the positive energy and fresh ideas you bring to the team each and every day, and look forward to what the rest of your internship brings! Thank you Alina & Kyuho! 💙

Turning the spotlight to our wonderful product specialist May Nguyen! May joined the team earlier this year and is based out of our San Francisco office. “It was love at first sight when I discovered Speak,” she said. “I grew up learning English by attending English institutions, learning with tutors, studying abroad, you name it, so I understand the language learning struggle first-hand. I wish Speak existed when I was learning English – it’s a special product!” May started learning Spanish after joining the team, and shared it really helped her communicate during her recent trip to Spain. “Japanese is next on my list,” she said. May was tasked with owning and up-leveling Speak’s QA function when she joined in February. “Looking back at where we started when I joined compared to today is very rewarding,” she said. When asked what she enjoys most about working for Speak, she shared it’s the impact she’s able to have on the company. “Speak is at a challenging yet rewarding stage where every individual can make a great impact on the company,” May said. “The close-knit and ego-free team makes this possible!
