The U.S. Plastics Pact is thrilled to announce the release of Roadmap 2.0! Building upon Roadmap to 2025, Roadmap 2.0 continues carrying forward the Targets, Outcomes, and Deliverables not yet fully achieved, pushing further those that have been successful, and implementing new, necessary objectives born from what was learned during the original strategic plan.   Roadmap 2.0 was designed to drive transformative change and accelerate progress across the entire plastics value chain to address plastic waste at its source and enable a just transition to a circular economy.   By working together across the plastics value chain, Activators have already:   — Decreased problematic and unnecessary materials from packaging from 14% to 8% — Increased the amount of reusable, recyclable, or compostable plastic packaging placed on the market from 37% to 47.7% — Increased use of postconsumer recycled content or responsibly sourced biobased content in plastic packaging from 7% to 9.4% As with the original Roadmap to 2025, these new Targets are interconnected; the success of one Target relies on the successful progress of the others. Evolved from its predecessor, the Targets of Roadmap 2.0 include:   1️⃣ Eliminate all items on the Problematic and Unnecessary Materials List and reduce the use of virgin plastic by 30% by 2030 2️⃣ Design and manufacture 100% of plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable, or compostable 3️⃣ Effectively recycle 50% of plastic packaging and establish the necessary framework to recycle or compost packaging at scale 4️⃣  Achieve an average of 30% postconsumer recycled content or responsibly sourced biobased content across all plastic packaging 5️⃣ Identify viable reusable packaging systems and increase their implementation and scale by 2030, as part of reducing the use of virgin plastic The U.S. Plastics Pact and our Activators continue working towards a future where plastics and packaging exist within a circular economy. #RoadmapTo2025 #RoadmapToCircularity #USPlasticsPact Read Roadmap 2.0 today: https://lnkd.in/gcV8mD7

As we navigate the complexities of establishing a circular economy for plastics and packaging, Plastics News' Don Loepp highlights the U.S. Plastics Pact Activators' commitment to perseverance, transparency, and accountability — despite unmet sustainability targets. In fact, the extension of our ambitious 2030 deadlines underscores continuous opportunities in collaboration and innovation. The deliverables of the US Plastics Pact require collective effort from brands, retailers, and consumers — and our Activators are determined to meet our collective goals. Loepp writes, "These are still ambitious goals, and now I think the Pact members have a better idea how to achieve them. That's encouraging. I remember plenty of cases from previous decades where industry and brand owners quietly stepped away from sustainability goals once they realized they were too expensive or difficult to achieve." With Roadmap 2.0 on the horizon, we have the chance to reassess our strategies and reinforce our commitments. Developed with investors, policymakers and composters in mind, the report titled Unleashing the Economic and Environmental Potential for Food Waste Composting in the U.S.: A Guide for Investors, Policymakers and the Compost Industry delves into the state of existing infrastructure, composting business models, and opportunities for public and private capital investment amidst rising landfill costs, federal attention on organics recycling, and state-wide organic bans. Exciting news! U.S. Plastics Pact Activator Kraft Heinz has announced its groundbreaking transition to 100% recycled PET bottles for Kraft Real Mayo and Miracle Whip products. This move is part of the company's larger commitment to reduce the use of virgin plastic in its packaging by 20% by 2030, a goal that aligns with the U.S. Plastics Pact's updated Target 1 of Roadmap 2.0. By making the switch to 100% rPET, Kraft Heinz will eliminate approximately 14 million pounds of virgin plastic. Consumers can now find the new 12- and 22-oz rPET bottles of Kraft Real Mayo and Miracle Whip on shelves, and Kraft Heinz plans to transition all other container sizes by the end of 2024. Kudos to Kraft Heinz for their circular packaging solutions! We are announcing an important leadership change at the U.S. Plastics Pact. After considerable reflection, Executive Director Emily Tipaldo, is resigning from her role, as she has chosen to step away to focus on her young family. Emily played an essential role in establishing the U.S. Plastics Pact in 2020, and has led the organization through many accomplishments in the past five years. She is extremely proud of the U.S. Pact team, Activators and Technical Affiliates, as well as all our amazing partners who are united in our crucial mission. Emily and our board of directors are committed to our collective mission and understand the importance of continuity, especially regarding leadership at this critical time as we roll out Roadmap 2.0 and grow the U.S. Pact to achieve our vision and mission. To this end, we are excited to announce the appointment of ♻️Jonathan Quinn♻️ as the U.S. Plastics Pact’s new Chief Executive Officer (a shift in title from Executive Director). Jonathan brings a wealth of industry knowledge and experience to the U.S. Pact, most recently as Global VP of Marketing & Sustainability for API Group and Accredo Packaging, Inc. His lifelong passion for and leadership in plastics packaging, paired with his strong belief in a plastics circular economy, make him ideally suited to lead the U.S. Pact in the next phase of our collective mission.
