Congratulations to Lisa Myers, RN, Coronary Care Unit (N4B), The Valley Hospital Daisy Award winner for April, presented by The Daisy Foundation. An excerpt from Lisa's nomination reads: “I am a general surgeon who was asked to consult on a very critically ill cardiothoracic surgery ICU patient. When I arrived first thing in the morning to the unit to evaluate the patient, Lisa was very busy with administering multiple medications including pressors concurrently to keep the patient alive all while helping me evaluate the patient for possible life saving emergency surgery. Throughout the morning, she relentlessly tended to the patient, who needed minute-by-minute evaluation and treatment. The decision was finally made to get the patient ready for surgery, and Lisa continued to perform her duties professionally and with a smile on her face despite the change in plans." "Upon return from surgery, she was ready to take over care of the patient. Although the patient had a critical prognosis and ultimately succumbed to his disease shortly thereafter, and despite hours of constant care, she was able to be compassionate with the patient’s family and provide them with comfort at the end of the life of their loved one. Without her help that day, we would not have been able to arrive at diagnosis and provide closure for the family in a manner that provided dignity for the patient. Valley is pleased to announce that Eric Carey, Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Valley Health System, has been recognized on the “Hospital and Health System CIOs to Know 2024” list presented by Becker's Hospital Review. Carey is one of 133 chief information officers to be recognized. As CIO of Valley Health System, Eric is responsible for the information systems and telecommunication services across Valley Health System, which includes The Valley Hospital, Valley Home Care, and Valley Medical Group. This includes all services from infrastructure through to end-user customer service, via a 24/7 service desk. Most recently, Eric was largely involved with the design of The Valley Hospital, which opened at its new location in Paramus, New Jersey, in April. Today at #ESC2024, Dr. Dan Musat presented "Automatic Measurement of Stimulus to Maximum Negative dv/dt in V5 and V6 Leads to Confirm Left Bundle Capture for Conduction System Pacing." The study was designed to test the feasibility and reproducibility of an automatic algorithm to measure the time from stimulation to maximum negative dv/dt in comparison to manual SRWPT measurement in V5 and V6. Key Conclusions: ➡️ Manual measurement of SRWPT can be challenging resulting in higher variability compared to an automatic algorithm measuring max negative dv/dt. ➡️ Automatic interval measurement in conduction system pacing is feasible, likely more accurate and shows lower variability. ➡️ The automatic algorithm performed better for both septal capture and LBB area pacing QRS morphologies. I’m incredibly proud of my Quality and Performance Improvement (QPI) team for creating our Quality Olympics, a fun and engaging program inspired by the 2024 Summer Olympics. This event was a huge success, bringing our staff together to focus on key quality measures while fostering teamwork and excitement. With the use of Kamishibai cards (K-cards), we provided real-time feedback and rewards, making the experience both motivating and impactful.
