Leadership Iowa University (LIU) visited Vermeer to tour and gain insight into the important work happening at Vermeer while learning about future job opportunities. Vermeer is proud to sponsor LIU as we work to advocate for the manufacturing industry and move economic development forward. LIU is designed to bridge the gap between college and career and assist students along their path to personal and professional success. The program connects students with Iowa leaders and introduces them to the many professional experiences they can gain here in the state.

Gloria Montiel, Vermeer Olympic Gold Medalist, and Talent Acquisition Specialist 😉 Last week I participated in my first Kaizen event! Initially, I anticipated myself there to help translate for 8 of the 13 team members who only speak Spanish, but that was just a small amount of the work that was done in a 4-day period. I spent my workdays on the production floor watching Mini Skid Steers being built, very different from my typical day! What I’m most proud of, (and what got me my medal!) was translating the standard work from English to Spanish for two skid steer models, in one day! This task was the most challenging of experiences I’ve had, but first of it’s kind on the Vermeer Mile. I am confident having translated standard work will make a real impact for the team members building the machines, as well as the quality, productivity, and safety of the line. I’m thankful for the opportunity to participate, learn more about Vermeer’s commitment to continuous improvement, and for my leaders who let me step out of recruiting for a week to learn and help at the Kaizen event ! With more than 70 family shareholder members, we work hard to connect all family members to the business. Each year, 4th generation family members join the team to learn about the business and connect with team members throughout the Vermeer Mile. “This summer I have worked in outreach, alongside Carlos Cervantes using my Spanish skills and planning an event for Hispanic Heritage Month. I’ve also worked with the audio-visual team learning all about videography, lighting and sound. Meet Our Returning Intern This summer, we welcomed more than 70 interns to the team. These dedicated, innovative students have brought their strengths and individuality to the important work we do. We are so excited that Laci Keen returned to Vermeer this summer as our finance intern. Laci has enjoyed her previous experiences at Vermeer and feels fulfilled by both the work she's accomplished and the relationships she's built with her team members.
