  • AOT and VERMONT DEPT FISH & WILDLIFE have been collaborating for years to expand and improve #wildlifecrossings in critical areas throughout the state. AOT and F&W work closely together to consider the needs of wildlife movement and habitat #connectivity in planning and project delivery. AOT supported the design and construction of the Monkton Salamander Crossing project through the Transportation Alternatives Program, which has a funding category for wildlife crossings. This crossing has been a great success to ensure safe crossing for the intended creatures as well as for others, including a bear recently caught on camera making safe passage through the tunnel under Monkton Road in Monkton, VT.

  • Two future leaders Philip Peloquin and Paul Libby recently attended the AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) Leadership Institute. AOT celebrates the initiative our employees take to advance their careers and build connections across the nation. Paul shared, "The AASHTO Leadership Institute (ALI) conference in Lawrence KS was a terrific combination of engaging conversation from world class professionals, mixed with industry expert presentations on some emerging topics in Transportation such as AI. There was also a strong focus on developing, managing, and learning about staff and self-strategies to maximize the potential within us; while learning the difference between activity and productivity. This gathering brought together amazing professionals from across the United States into a setting of collaboration and meaningful networking discussions. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and would recommend it to others." #AASHTO #leadership #transportation

  • Attention map lovers: Did you know that AOT maintains a library of maps that are available to the public? This includes state, town, and county maps; statewide highway maps; town and county highway maps; and other special-use maps. Maps are vital tools in the planning process at the state and local level and are kept up to date by the AOT Mapping Section. You can access these maps for research or for fun through VTransparency, our public information portal. The Town Highway Maps archive is a great place to start. Search by county, town, or year, and see the evolution of your local infrastructure dating back to the first map series in 1931 and continuing to the present. See the craftsmanship of the hand drawn maps by the State, like the 1945 Newbury Town Highway Map. The archive also contains maps from sources outside of AOT, such as a map of West Newbury made in 1931 including drawings of landmarks, and designed with rings to show a 5-mile radius around the village. There are thousands of maps in the collection, providing a look back into history and the artistry of cartography. Take a look for yourself! https://lnkd.in/e-6BJQay

  • Congratulations Marv Kingsbury, VTrans and Kara Eaton, DMV, for being selected as State of Vermont Public Service Recognition Award Recipients! Today, Governor Phil Scott and Interim Secretary of Administration Sarah Clark acknowledged the accomplishments of state employees across the enterprise for including two of our own. Marv Kingsbury: This is Marv’s 64th year with the Agency; he started work with us in 1957 before any completed section of interstate was open to the public in the now extinct “locations” section of the Planning Division. Marv moved to Federal Programs in the 1970’s as the Programming Engineer and has since programmed thousands of federally funded projects worth over $6 billion dollars and is the go-to person for federal funding questions. Marv’s commitment to transportation spans many changes in our transportation system, from the beginnings of the Interstate system in Vermont to the Transportation network we know today. Marv, thank you for your exceptional work and dedication! Kara Eaton: Kara is recognized by her peers for her outstanding customer service and desire to be a positive role model for others. Kara exemplifies teamwork, promotes a welcoming work environment, works with integrity ~ and customer needs are always the priority. Kara has shown time and time again her dedication to our DMV team. She is an exemplary role model and mentor for her peers. We thank you Kara for all you do!
