Mission: A Strong Community, One Veteran at a time. Veterans Bridge Home helps Veterans in the Carolinas successfully transition home after military service by identifying their education, employment, social enrichment, and healthcare needs and connecting them to available community, state and federal resources. VBH is the one-stop shop for Veterans in the Metrolina (Charlotte), Triad, Sandhills and Triangle regions in North Carolina and Midlands region in South Carolina. Without VBH, the civilian community can feel overwhelming and confusing to a Veteran just leaving the armed forces. With VBH, Veterans in transition have a single point of contact to help navigate this very important life event, in a compassionate, low-pressure, and productive manner. The number of Veteran and Military families VBH connects and serves continues to grow each year, highlighting the need in our communities. VBH continues to lead the community towards making our Charlotte founded organization a national model of public-private partnerships that assist in transitioning our nation’s returning Veterans. Have you thought about applying for your VA disability benefits but haven't taken that step yet? I get it—navigating the system can be overwhelming. But trust me, these benefits are your right and can make a huge difference in your life! Recently, through the collective impact of Mecklenburg County Veteran Service Office, North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, Veterans Bridge Home and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs had an incredible turnout at our #VeteransBenefitLive in Charlotte, and the results were inspiring: ◾ 1,121 Veterans showed up to learn more about what’s available to them. ◾ 39 Veterans interacted with the VA for the very first time—what a big first step! ◾ 46 Veterans enrolled in VA health care on-site. ◾ 97 toxic exposure screenings were conducted to help protect our veterans’ health. ◾ 21 Homeless Veterans received much-needed support. ◾ 39 Veterans with Military Sexual Trauma issues were assisted—ensuring they get the care they need. ◾ 472 Veterans attended information sessions, learning how to access their benefits, including 44 who got set up with new VA.gov accounts. The VA also processed 315 PACT Act-related claims and 245 other disability claims, plus 106 supplemental claims right there on the spot. Even better, 61 Veterans received expedited decisions, and were awarded over $606,739 in retroactive benefits—and that number is still growing! That money will be injected into North and South Carolina communities, and will continue for the duration of those #Veterans lives. This is what it's all about—getting the benefits you’ve earned and ensuring you have the support you need. So if you haven’t applied yet, what are you waiting for?
