Smart Hospitals are leveraging actionable real-time data to improve processes and patient care. #RTLS #HealthInformatics #DigitalHealth
Health informatics is revolutionizing how we approach healthcare, making a profound impact on patient outcomes and system efficiencies. As the field continues to evolve, it becomes crucial to explore its influence on the healthcare landscape. From enhancing patient care with advanced data analytics to streamlining administrative processes, health informatics stands at the intersection of technology and healthcare. Understanding these developments is key to leveraging their potential for a healthier future. Intrigued by the possibilities? We interviewed Cedric Truss, DHA, MSHI, CPHIMS, chair of the Department of Health Sciences and clinical associate professor at Georgia State University's Lewis College, and Jim Forbes, Chief Strategy Officer at Atlanta-based Vizzia Technologies, who shared their thoughts on "The Growing Impact of Health Informatics," as they uncovered the challenges and innovations shaping this dynamic field. A Georgia State University study, funded by Vizzia Technologies, examined how #RTLS technology can benefit hospital workers. Findings indicate technology that workers can easily work with, and that offer a phased deployment approach, may be most successful. The company leverages its two-decades of R&D in its IoT Lab at the The University of New Mexico. Vizzia is now deploying its InVIEW platform at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta’s new $2 billion pediatric hospital that opens in September. https://lnkd.in/ey4wMwQz #RFID #RTLS #IoT #RFIDJournalLIVE #RFIDJournalLIVE25 #RAINRFID #RealTimeData #Sustainability #RFIDTags #SupplyChain #SupplyChainManagement #Merchandising#AI #BLE #Bluetooth #DigitalTwins #ML #RAINRFID #HealthcareAI #Healthcare

Great TAG Digital Health event yesterday on technologies helping nursing and patient care. Packed house, too! Here are some of my key takeaways. Workplace safety - unfortunately nurses face massive safety issues (mostly from patients) - health systems are adding a staff duress button on their badge using RTLS to alert dispatch of a need for help and location (also allows quality measurement) (Michelle Myers BSN, RN, CCRN-CSC, FCCS) It is critical to involve nurses in product development to ensure it will work practically (Jason Atkins) AI is at the peak of inflated expectations How health systems are using AI - not for clinical decision support yet, focusing on administrative tasks to prove reliability (Emory) - Developed LLM for cancer registry with 92% accuracy rate (Emory) - Ambient listening - cell phone records conversation (with patient permission) and generative AI generates notes (both official and patient facing) resulting more eye contact (Emory) - Automate vital sign upload to Epic which can trigger early warning signals and improve patient care and nurse satisfaction (Marion Lee , Grady) Piedmont is leveraging Virtual nursing to gather key information from patients (medications, health history, etc) as well as prep for discharge alleviating burden on bedside nurses (improving nurse satisfaction) and speeding discharge while providing more thorough education (improving patient satisfaction)(Michelle) Interesting concern tied to this use case … with the integration of technology and virtual nursing to offload routine tasks, the remaining tasks will be the really complex ones which may cause burnout in a different way (Jason) Developed an app fo limited English proficiency (with Microsoft) for common nursing tasks so nurses don’t need to wait for an interpreter and improve communication accuracy (Google translate is not a medical app) (Christina Calamaro) Simulation centers (like at Grady and GSU) are a supplement, not substitute, to bedside patient care. Goal is to get nurses practice ready. Set up responsible AI and ethics committee (Jason) - Multidisciplinary decision-making body that includes IS, clinical representation, etc to evaluate technology. Lots of talk of SO many vendor solicitations. How do they decide what to investigate? examples from peers, cost, evidence that it improves outcomes, criteria: does it make it easier to recruit/retain/work/deliver positive patient outcomes Learnings from Technology flops - lack of understanding of what people really need, need to get to trial early - insufficient engagement of nurses from the beginning (example of processes that run counter to safety steps) - set expectation of what success/failure up front, invent early adopters, have an out clause - ask where the technology has been proven Why are nurses leaving? Burnout is actually low on the list. Top reasons are retirement and relocation.
