This Medical Term Monday, we're highlighting 'bradycardia.' Bradycardia refers to a slower than normal heart rate, typically fewer than 60 beats per minute in adults. 🫀 Understanding bradycardia is essential for heart health. While it might not always cause symptoms, it can lead to dizziness, fatigue, or even fainting if the heart isn’t pumping enough blood to meet the body's needs. Got questions about other medical terms? We're here to make healthcare terminology easy to understand, one term at a time.

We are dedicated to helping patients from all linguistic backgrounds comprehend their screening procedures and results. Voyce interpreters are trained in cognitive strategies. It's about enhancing memory and recall of complex medical terms. Here are 6 ways mnemonics improve communication in healthcare: **Acronyms for Quick Recall** Interpreters use acronyms to remember long medical terms.  For example, COPD = Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease **Visualization Techniques** Creating mental images helps interpreters recall terms. Visualizing the items a patient is being asked to bring on the day of surgery. For example, please bring your insurance card, photo ID, medication list, and wear comfortable clothing. **Association Methods** Linking new information to something familiar aids memory. Associating a term with a known concept ensures accurate recall. **Chunking Information** Breaking down complex terms into smaller chunks makes them easier to remember. This technique is especially useful for long medical procedures. **Repetition and Practice** Regular practice reinforces memory. Interpreters repeatedly go over terms until they become second nature. **Mind Mapping** Drawing connections between terms through diagrams aids in visual learning. Mind maps create a visual structure that makes recall easier. At Voyce, we are always finding new ways to improve communication in healthcare. Our incredible interpreters ensure every patient-provider interaction is seamless, accurate, and culturally sensitive.

💡 Did you know that the first languages of North America trace back to two distinct Siberian language groups from 24,000 years ago? A new study by UC Berkeley linguist Johanna Nichols, published in the American Journal of Biological Anthropology, used linguistic typology and statistical analysis to trace the evolution of these languages. By comparing and organizing languages based on shared criteria, they uncovered patterns that link early North American languages to their Siberian origins. The findings show how these ancient languages shaped the linguistic landscape of Canada, the U.S., and Mexico. 🇨🇦🇺🇸🇲🇽 This research highlights the deep roots and interconnectedness of human language—a mission we live by every day.
