A few weeks ago, VSE’s Inclusion & Diversity Council and Employee Resource Group leaders convened at VSE Aviation’s Distribution site in South Florida for the inaugural Inclusion & Diversity Leadership Summit. The event featured interactive workshops led by guest speakers Dr. Christopher A. Clarke, Assistant Vice President for Community Belonging & Success at Austin Peay State University, and Kennedy Robinson-Birt, Director of Multicultural Student Affairs at the University of Miami. Their presentations aimed to raise awareness, enhance organizational belonging, develop strategies for building inclusive teams, and foster spaces for brave leadership dialogue. The summit included a forward-looking strategy session where leaders collaboratively developed a roadmap for sustaining and advancing the company's inclusion and diversity initiatives. Key outcomes included establishing measurable goals, accountability frameworks, and regular progress reviews to ensure continuous improvement. The team committed to transparent communication and ongoing education to keep inclusion and diversity at the forefront of VSE's priorities. Our approach to health and safety includes: ■ Designated on-site safety leaders at over 20 VSE locations, who regularly collaborate with safety consultants, risk management, and the HES program team to share best safety practices. ■ Safety training for employees, both annually and through targeted site-specific training based on risk factors, feedback, and insights from similar locations. ■ Safety audits for equipment to ensure the safety of machinery and training on safety measures for employees handling risky equipment. ■ Conducting comprehensive loss control visits at various company facilities. ■ Collaborating with our insurance carrier to conduct ongoing workers’ compensation claim reviews to proactively address issues or trends. ■ Regular risk assessments and safety inspections at VSE locations, including conducting property insurance surveys. In recent years, we have intensified our efforts to improve the efficiency of our energy and water usage and other climate-related aspects of our operations. We remain committed to identifying and assessing opportunities to foster a cleaner and safer workplace, while also embracing sustainable practices to minimize our environmental footprint. Some of our recent actions and facility updates include: 🔹 Recycling over 650,000 lbs. of cardboard, paper, and plastic materials at our Fleet segment's Somerset, PA headquarters 🔹 Maintaining LEED Gold certified status at our Alexandria, VA Global Headquarters 🔹Adopting electronic picking systems to replace printed pick tickets, resulting in a significant reduction in paper usage with 283,000 orders processed at our Olive Branch, MS Fleet Distribution center 🔹Continued to install and maintain LED Lighting systems in a majority of our business locations.
