The Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club, a distinctive, AAA Four Diamond hotel property located on Duke University's campus, is hosting a free masterclass, titled “The Poet’s Toolbox: Becoming a Better Writer,” Thursday, Feb. 22 from 5-7 p.m. in the hotel’s Vista Restaurant. Led by Author Sarah Rose Nordgren, Ph.D., M.F.A., guests will explore the three foundational tools of the poet that, when used effectively, will make their writing in any setting more powerful, memorable and vivid.      The free class is limited to 25 attendees, and advanced registration is required by completing the following form: https://lnkd.in/e22znJcz. Small bites and beverages will be available for purchase.     Nordgren, a poetry teacher who resides in Durham, North Carolina, is the author of the poetry collections Darwin’s Mother and Best Bones, the prose chapbook The Creation Museum and the forthcoming nonfiction book Feathers: A Bird-Hat Wearer’s Journal, winner of the Essay Press Book Prize. Her poems and essays have appeared in American Poetry Review, Kenyon Review, Ploughshares and Narrative, and have been featured by PBS Newshour, The Slowdown podcast, Poetry Daily and elsewhere.    Nordgren’s masterclass is part of the “Dive Into Durham” Masterclass Series – a free weekly program hosted by the Inn and the neighboring JB Duke Hotel in which experts from across the Triangle area share their professional insights and insider tips to help hotel guests and community members develop personally and professionally. The Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club, a distinctive, AAA Four Diamond hotel property located on Duke University's campus, is hosting a free “Intro to Birding” masterclass with the New Hope Audubon Society (NHAS) on Saturday, Feb. 17 from 9-11 a.m. in the Rotunda Room. As part of this one-of-a-kind experience, guests will explore a variety of bird species and learn how to observe size, behavior, color and sounds to identify the birds they see and hear in their backyards.     In addition, the NHAS will lead an outdoor walk and birdwatching session on the Al Buehler trail, also located at the Inn. Guests should dress for the brisk outdoors and wear comfortable walking shoes. While the NHAS team will have binoculars for participants to share, guests are invited to bring their own pair.     The free class is limited to 25 attendees, and advanced registration is required by completing the following form: https://lnkd.in/e22znJcz.
