Water We Do?: U.S. And Mexico Struggle To Resolve Water Dispute Beyond immigration, a new border dispute between the U.S. and Mexico has been heating up for years and is about to reach a fever pitch. An 80-year-old treaty obligates Mexico to deliver water from tributaries on their side of the Rio Grande to parts of South Texas every five years. Now, with reservoirs on the Rio Grande at critically low levels, many industries and communities in South Texas are being impacted, including the loss of the last sugar mill in the region. The U.S. Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission which oversees the negotiation and execution of the treaty, is struggling to work out a solution Continue reading: https://lnkd.in/ePTYEV7r

By striving to make water invisible so that customers can use our services without disruption, water exists in the background of daily life. Invisible water, however, fosters a low level of consumer involvement and marketability. Customers expect their water providers to act like their credit card companies, alerting them about incidents in real time. Thus, if we want to confront the critical challenges of aging assets, climate change, and water rate increases, the era of water invisibility must end. The water sector must evolve its messaging to make water more visible and top of mind. How can we accomplish this? In this article, Dr. Peter Prevos from Coliban Water and Dr. Amir Cahn, PhD from #SWAN discuss how tap water is severely undervalued based on its price, availability, and delivery complexity. Improving Infrastructure Planning Is Essential To Delivery The water industry faces a monumental challenge: delivering the vast infrastructure needed to meet future demands, while navigating a complex landscape of competing projects in energy, transport, and communications. The water sector needs to build infrastructure at scale over the coming decades. Competing demands with other sectors over the allocation of resources means a collaborative approach is vital. In this article, Sharon Darcy, chair of The Linear Infrastructure Planning Panel (LIPP), discusses how we can face the challenge of balancing national and local needs in infrastructure planning. https://lnkd.in/eT-AVYmk #waterinfrastructure
