🌟 Lucía Coll: A Trailblazer in Sustainable Tourism and Social Development 🌟 From a young age, Lucía Coll has been captivated by hiking, nature, and climbing. Her passion led her to co-found an adventure tourism company at 18, helping her forge strong connections with local communities. Today, Lucía is the Managing Director of the EPOSAK FOUNDATION INC, a #nonprofit dedicated to the social and economic development of #Venezuela through sustainable #tourism. EPOSAK supports several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): - Goal 4: #QualityEducation - Goal 8: #DecentWorkandEconomicGrowth - Goal 11: #SustainableCitiesandCommunities Recognizing the critical need for #internetaccess, especially in rural areas, EPOSAK has made significant strides in providing reliable internet to tourism entrepreneurs and local schools. Buildings equipped with satellite internet by EPOSAK have become hubs for students working on school projects, thereby supporting SDG 4 by ensuring inclusive, equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities. EPOSAK addresses the unsustainable practices in Venezuela’s fisheries and mining sectors by offering alternative, sustainable revenue-generating options. Through sustainable tourism, EPOSAK promotes inclusive economic growth and decent work for all, particularly for women, indigenous peoples, and Afro-descendants, ensuring environmental and social responsibility. The organization also empowers women working in the tourism value chain, with 50% of its beneficiaries being women who lead key projects. For instance, the female Afro-descendant community in Birongo has formed ‘Birongo’s Tourism Promoters’ to highlight and preserve their cultural and natural heritage. Additionally, female partners spearhead the #solarenergy initiative in Kamarata and the #musicalheritage initiative across all EPOSAK communities.
