Let’s talk heroes and holidays, shall we? Because celebrating Juneteenth with cookouts and a quick bio of #MLKJr. ain’t cutting it! Culturally responsive teaching – it’s the buzzword on everyone’s lips, but are schools actually walking the walk? #Blackhistory (and the history of ALL marginalized groups) isn’t a one-off chapter or a feel-good assembly. It’s the ongoing story of resilience, resistance, and revolution. So, how do we fix this? Let’s ditch the tokenism and get real. Books by authors of color? Heck yeah! But don’t just shove them on a dusty shelf. Make them the foundation! Women in WWI? Fantastic! Now, let’s explore their experiences beyond just being the “supporting cast.” Schools with courage (and a whole lot of sense) will take this next step. It’s not about “#otherness.” It’s about a #diverse chorus of voices, a tapestry woven with stories that reflect the world we live in. This isn’t the finish line, it’s the starting pistol. There’s a long road ahead, but hey, every journey begins with a single step. Let’s hold schools accountable for true cultural responsiveness.
