Congratulations to WellPower's very own Chief Financial Officer, Angela Oakley, for winning the Denver Business Journal inaugural CFO of the Year award! CFOs are the unsung heroes of nonprofit work - they ensure we have the means to provide critical services to our communities, and WellPower knows we'd be hard-pressed to find a CFO as incredible as Angela. To all of the CFOs nominated for this award, we congratulate you, too, and celebrate the work you do. Thank you!

Deaf Awareness Month is celebrated annually during September to increase awareness and promote the rights of the Deaf community. It is a time to celebrate Deaf culture, language and achievements while also recognizing the challenges they face. This month provides an opportunity to educate the public about Deafness, including the different forms of communication and the importance of accessibility. By raising awareness, we can work towards a more inclusive and equitable society that values and supports the Deaf community.

Too often, the lives claimed by drug overdoses are merely seen as figures in growing statistics, but their loved ones know better. International Overdose Awareness Day gives communities an opportunity to honor lives lost to drug use and a chance to talk openly about the realities of addiction and overdose as well as help people get connected to substance use treatment. If you suspect an overdose, call 911 right away. www.overdoseday.com

Check out the last installment (for now!) of our “Recipes to Recharge” series. Foods that contain complex carbs (like quinoa) help regulate your blood sugar and make you feel fuller longer, reducing negative emotions like the well-known “hanger.” WellPower’s Farms & Gardens team provides another great recipe today.
