Most recently, we announced a $100,000 donation to nine North Carolina Family Justice Centers (NCFJC) across the state to support Camp HOPE America, the leading camp and mentor program for youth affected by domestic violence. #DYK? - NC has the second largest Family Justice Center network in the nation! NCFJCs are transforming the lives of those impacted by abuse, providing support systems for survivors in times of crisis and thereafter. On August 23rd, our team had the privilege of participating in the Medicaid PHP Panel discussion during the North Carolina HFMA (NCHFMA) Summer Conference in Myrtle Beach, SC. Our VP of Operations, Lindsey Hanson, joined the panel led by Ronnie Cook, Finance and Managed Care Consultant for NCHA, with support from our VP of Network & Development, Ajhezza A Martinez. This marked the first time PHPs were invited to join this important discussion, where key topics included network adequacy, prompt payment for providers, reducing administrative burdens, and the future of Medicaid in North Carolina. Lindsey Hanson represented WellCare by addressing our initiatives to reduce administrative burdens and enhance provider relationships, emphasizing our commitment to improving the overall healthcare experience for our providers and members. The session was highly successful, and due to the positive reception, WellCare has been invited to participate in the upcoming NC HFMA conference in February 2025. We are grateful for the opportunity to continue sharing our progress and collaborating with health systems across the state.

This week, we celebrate National Community Health Worker (CHW) Awareness Week and recognize the important role CHWs play in supporting both our members and our organization. CHWs are integral to our care management efforts, ensuring members receive coordinated care that extends beyond traditional healthcare services. By addressing social determinants of health and providing personalized support, CHWs help close gaps and empower members throughout their health journeys. Back in May, we shared the story of 40 families in Henderson, NC, who were displaced when Hotel 121 closed its doors due to serious health and safety concerns. Our team quickly responded, with Community Relations Representative Felita L. Pierre leading the way to provide immediate assistance. Collaborating with local organizations like Myra's Angels Foundation, our team delivered essential supplies and critical support to help these families navigate the initial crisis. However, the journey to permanent housing was far from over. By partnering with Beds for Kids, who donated furniture, we were able to provide these families with the much-needed comfort and security they had been missing after months of uncertainty. Team members, including Alisha Martin, Senior Community Relations Representative; Deborah Dolan, Senior Community Advocate; Lovemore Masakadza, MPA, PMP, ACB, Senior Manager of Community Engagement; and Shaune Lancit, Director of Community Engagement, worked tirelessly on the ground over the past few months to help these families rebuild their lives and create homes they can truly be proud of. Our Care Management Team recently volunteered with the DIAPER BANK OF NORTH CAROLINA, dedicating their efforts to counting and wrapping diapers and pull-ups for families in need. Jennifer Foxx, Senior Care Manager (RN), Marla Matthews, Supervisor, Care Management (RN); Hilary Canty, RN, Care Manager; and Terresa Thigpen, Manager, Care Management (RN), wrapped an impressive 2,625 diapers, providing support for 53 babies! 🍼 Our Care Management Team’s efforts have directly made a meaningful difference, supplying essential items to families and babies in need.
