"Nicole is clearly a goat whisperer." Daisy the baby goat hoofed it to GBH in Brighton this week for an appearance on GBH News' "Boston Public Radio" with Jim Braude and Margery Eagan. As you can see, she took a special liking to radio production assistant Nicole Garcia! The "Boston Public Radio" segment focused on places in Massachusetts where adorable animals will lift your spirits, such as Beyond Yoga & Wellness where Daisy will be joining goat yoga. We can confirm that spirits were lifted and hearts were melted at Guest Street. "Accessibility and disability should be a part of everyone's job." Meghan Smith, senior digital producer for GBH News, didn't start her journalism career with a focus on disability. After a lightbulb moment reporting how some Boston restaurants went the extra mile to make their outdoor patios accessible, she increasingly saw a need to report on disability and accessibility issues. The GBH newsroom has supported a disability beat, leading to some of their most engaged-with stories on social media. "Where you have Black people who are disproportionately, discriminatorily excluded from housing, that's not only a housing harm, it's a dignity harm, it's a humiliation harm." What role does dignity play in repairing our culture from a deeply-rooted history of racial discrimination and social injustice? Here's what Cornell William Brooks, Harvard professor and former president and CEO of NAACP, has to say during a discussion hosted by@ This clip is from a larger panel discussion hosted by GBH News and Jamil Smith, editor-in-chief of The Emancipator, examining how Boston might change after reparations are enacted. Can beige and pink get along? "Pinkalicious & Peterrific," produced by GBH Kids, set out to explore if two families with drastically different affinities - one for calming beige tones and one for vibrant pink - can learn from their differences. This video has resonated with hundreds of thousands of viewers across the web, some thrilled to learn that their favorite children's books have their own public television series, and some keen to weigh in on the Team Beige vs. Team Pink face off. In July, GBH celebrates Disability Pride Month to honor the history, achievements, experiences, and struggles of the disability community. GBH is proud of its long history of making media accessible to people with disabilities. We collaborated with World Channel last week for a discussion around the opportunities, strategies, and challenges facing journalists and filmmakers with disabilities – on both sides of the camera. Dan Habib, Cara Reedy, Liz Pritchard and GBH News' own Meghan Smith shared their perspectives on how disability is covered in film and in newsrooms.
