This week’s #NurseDayThursday, Priscilla Velazquez, BSN, RN, has worked at White Plains Hospital for the past 28 years! Priscilla began her career working for the FBI in Puerto Rico, where she gave birth to both of her sons. Just one day after her second son was born in 1990, a nurse detected a life-threatening abdominal issue that sent him into an immediate life-saving surgery. She said, “It’s what prompted me to change my career. This one experience made me know that I needed to be a nurse."" The following year, Priscilla and her family moved to New York, she enrolled in the nursing program at Rockland Community College before joining White Plains Hospital. “I’ve grown so much at White Plains Hospital,” says Priscilla, who returned to school to receive her BSN from Concordia College in 2015. “You always have the opportunity to learn more, they want you to continue to educate yourself.” Priscilla’s nursing experience includes Orthopedics, Neurology, Endoscopy, Cardiac Stepdown, Radiology, Cardiology, and she currently works in IV Therapy. “My career is the gift that keeps on giving,” she shares. Thank you, Priscilla, for your continuous learning and all that you do for your patients. You are nothing less than exceptional!
