Advice to “follow your passions” may be keeping women out of STEM, one report discovers. In fact, a study found that when both students and adults are advised to follow their passions, they are more likely to choose fields that are consistent with what was expected of their gender (such as women choosing jobs in the arts or healthcare, and men choosing careers in science and business).
