Protecting Our Natural World, Together

About us

Wild Earth Allies’ mission is to protect vital areas of our natural world for the benefit of wildlife, habitats, and people by inspiring collaborative action. Together with our field partners, we focus on locally-led actions to protect wildlife and habitats in ways that improve human well-being. We have built a solid track record of success over decades. Today, our community-based conservation efforts make a lasting, positive impact across more than 3 million acres of priority terrestrial and marine ecosystems globally. Our greatest strength is our people. We join forces with accomplished local practitioners to turn the tide of biodiversity and habitat loss in critical areas around the world. We engage in collaborative program design, implementation, and shared learning to maximize positive outcomes for wildlife, habitats, and people. Wild Earth Allies is built on important values—optimism, cultural respect, shared learning, and integrity. We select our initiatives based on the most pressing needs and genuine opportunities to catalyze change in culturally appropriate ways. Our lean structure allows donor support to quickly reach the field to benefit wildlife, habitats, and people. We have earned top nonprofit rankings from Charity Navigator for over a decade and the highest level of recognition by Candid (formerly GuideStar), the Platinum Seal of Transparency.

We’re proud to share a short film featuring highlights from our recent gathering in Washington, D.C. Together with Wild Earth Allies Board members, Ambassadors, supporters, and colleagues, we honored the extraordinary work of our long-time partners Augustin K. Basabose, MICHAEL Baraka NYAKABEJI, Eugene Rutagarama, and Joelle Rutagarama. Board member Mohamed Bakarr moderated a lively conversation with these distinguished panelists from the DRC and Rwanda. In Mohamed’s words, “Their leadership and their locally led actions are what’s going to drive the kind of change that we’re looking for at the planetary scale.”  Watch the film and join us in celebrating these conservation leaders! Restoring elephant habitat one tree at a time 🐘 🌱 Our Elephant Trees project is a novel tree-planting method focused on the diet of Asian elephants. Built upon years of research, the project is shaping reforestation efforts in Cambodia’s Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary. Using seeds dispersed by elephants through their dung, we've planted 2,472 seedlings with local communities and the Ministry of Environment. And with our new nursery cultivating 20,000 more native trees, we're just getting started. The project not only benefits nature but also provides food, traditional medicine, and seasonal employment to Indigenous Kuy community members. What is #permaculture, and why does it matter? 🌱🌍 Permaculture is a way of designing agricultural systems that work with nature, not against it. In simple terms, it’s about growing food and managing resources in a way that’s good for people and the planet. By mimicking the patterns and relationships in natural ecosystems, permaculture creates sustainable and self-sufficient practices. The result? More variety in produce, healthier soils, improved water retention, and higher yields using less land. Permaculture also helps fight deforestation. By mixing trees and plants with traditional crops, it adds trees to areas usually cleared for regular farming. In the DRC, our partner Primate Expertise has trained 60 households in permaculture techniques—with many more to come. Their efforts improve soil fertility, use less land, and improve family well-being. A huge thank you to EARN for making this initiative possible! 📷: Primate Expertise

Cambodia’s coastal protectors just got a boost! Earlier this month, we conducted refresher trainings in SMART (Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool) technology with nine Community Fisheries and the Fisheries Administration in Kep and Kampot, Cambodia. SMART is a powerful tool that enhances wildlife monitoring, management, and protection. Together with E En, our Community and SMART Coordinator, workshop participants learned to conduct more effective patrols that monitor marine ecosystems and raise awareness about fishing regulations. Ultimately, this work will lead to more sustainable fisheries and improved protections for endangered marine wildlife. #OceanConservation #ConservationTechnology

Happy #WorldElephantDay! Today, we're spotlighting our efforts to conserve endangered Asian elephants in Cambodia in ways that help both people and nature flourish. Asian elephants are endangered across their range due to conflict with people as well as habitat loss and fragmentation. Protecting Cambodia’s forests is essential to their survival. That's why Wild Earth Allies works with government and community partners to conserve elephants and enhance local livelihoods. Together, we safeguard this remarkable species in Prey Lang Wildlife Sanctuary and in key areas of the Cardamom Mountains, covering 1.8 million acres of vital habitat. Join us in supporting efforts to ensure a thriving future for both elephants and people. 💚 #ElephantConservation

Zero waste in Grauer's gorilla habitat 🌿 🦍 In Kahuzi-Biega National Park in the DRC, trash left by road users poses serious risks to the park's biodiversity. Our partner Primate Expertise teamed up with students from the Synergy of Ecologists for the Environment and Development (SEED) and partners from Kahuzi-Biega National Park, Plastycor, and Batwa communities to collect 1,862 pounds (845 kilograms) of non-biodegradable waste to protect this critical ecosystem. They also installed trash cans along roads to encourage responsible disposal. The event was part of Primate Expertise's larger commitment to help keep the park clean for people and wildlife. 📷: Primate Expertise

New research is out confirming the presence of blue monkeys on Idjwi Island in the DRC! Our partner Primate Expertise (PEx) has just published their exciting findings in the latest issue of African Primates. Despite years of deforestation and habitat loss, a resilient population of at least 50 blue monkeys is thriving on the island. PEx’s research doesn’t stop there. They’ve explored community perspectives toward blue monkeys, providing crucial insights for developing effective, locally led conservation strategies. Many livelihood initiatives are already underway that benefit families and ease pressures on local forests. This publication is a significant step toward ensuring the long-term survival of blue monkeys and their habitat on Idjwi Island. 🌿💚 📖 Read the full research: https://loom.ly/78VEQjc Please spread the word and help us celebrate this conservation success story! 📷: Camera trap footage courtesy of Primate Expertise #Conservation #BlueMonkeys #WildlifeResearch #CommunityConservation
